Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Gets Bold Directive From Travis Kelce

Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders got some bold backing from Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce ahead of his second start.

Both Jason and Travis Kelce are longtime Browns fans at heart, despite playing for other NFL franchises. The duo was happy to see Sanders get his first start and lead the team to a Week 12 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.

“Talk your (expletive) Shedeur, let’s (expletive) go,” Travis Kelce said on a recent episode of the “New Heights” podcast. “My dog goes in, gets his first start, gets his first dub. Let’s [expletive] go man.

“The 45th starting QB for the Browns since 1994. First Browns QB to win in his first official start since 1995. Cleveland’s been waiting for this. We’ve been waiting for this.”

Shedeur Sanders Provided Spark for Browns Offense

Sanders still has room for improvement. He passed for 209 yards with a touchdown and an interception in his first start against the Raiders. The most notable play was a 52-yard completion on the run against the blitz to Isaiah Bond that came up just short of the end zone. Those types of plays were missing from the Browns’ arsenal previously and give fans like the Kelces hope.

“I cannot wait to watch this week, that is for sure,” Jason Kelce said. “In one game Shedeur showed them more than they had seen really in any of the games with Gabriel, right?

“And that’s not a shot at Gabriel. It’s just the reality of it. They had at least a big play. It wasn’t like he was out of this world. He was like 11 for 20 or something like that. Didn’t have amazing stats, but he made a couple of big plays. And for a first start, won the game and had some pretty good success. So now we get to see it again.”

Gabriel was cleared from concussion protocol this week but the Browns decided to stick with Sanders.

Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Still Working to Keep Starting Spot

Sanders was a fifth-round pick and he’s well aware that he’ll have to continue to prove himself to hang on to the starting spot. That’s true for next week and potentially the long-term future.

“I’m definitely not comfortable though, so that’s first and foremost that I have another opportunity to go out there,” Sanders said. “But in life, you’ve got to understand how quickly things come or how long it comes. It could be taken at any point in time. So I’m never comfortable in a situation I’m in. I always want to exceed expectations and I always want to grow. Each and every week, I want to put a better product of myself, be a better version of myself for the team to be out there.”

Sanders and the Browns will face a stiffer test this week against the 8-4 San Francisco 49ers. Additionally, the conditions are expected to include wind, rain and snow, which will be a challenge to pass the ball in.

Cleveland is a 6.5-point home underdog for the matchup.
