Browns’ Shedeur Sanders Breaks Silence on $200K Home Robbery

On Sunday, while the Browns were losing to the Ravens and while rookie Shedeur Sanders was making his NFL debut in a rough second half, three masked thieves were making their way into Sanders’ home and helping themselves to his property.

According to a report from the Medina County Sheriff’s Office, the thieves were in Sanders’ home for 12 minutes, and ransacked a bedroom. Captain Eric Bors told the local Fox station that the robbery was not very methodical.

Of the items taken, Bors said, “Some of them were higher-value bags. And it appears they just grabbed those bags, put some of the stuff in those bags, and they just walked right out the door with those items in their hands.”

The estimated value of the items was $200,000, the police said.

Shedeur Sanders on Robbery: ‘It Happens’

On Wednesday, as Sanders met the media for the first time as the Browns’ clear QB1 heading into Week 12, when Cleveland will play the Raiders in Las Vegas, he also addressed the robbery. Sanders was asked about how he has grown here in his rookie year, as he has gone from being a fifth-round pick to having to sit and wait his turn to start behind fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel.

But he said the robbery provides an example of his growth.

“I would say, mentally, emotionally,” he said. “Like, I know it’s a trending topic, that my house got broken into, but I am in a mental space now where there is not too much that can faze me. Honestly, that’s what’s going on. And none of my jewelry got took anyway, by the way, none of my jewelry got took. So you know, it’s just, caught slipping and you know, it happens.”

Browns Hoping for Improvement

Of course, the issue that Browns fans are most concerned with now is how much Sanders can grow from his shaky debut in the second half on Sunday, when he went 4-for-16 passing for 47 yards and an interception, while taking two sacks. He was thrown, unceremoniously, into the fire against the Ravens, with Gabriel suffering a concussion.

Now, he will have time to prepare as a starter with the first team. The hope is that preparation makes a difference.

“I’m truly excited for that, knowing that, I have a piece in the offense and a say so and how things fit my eye and place the players exactly where they need to be,” Sanders said. “Seeing how they come in and out of routes, seeing the structure of the O-lineman, seeing a set, just having a feeling. Like I’m more of a feel type of person. So that’s how I learn. That’s how I do everything.”

Browns ‘Doing Everything’ to Help Shedeur Sanders Prepare

Sanders explained that he is a better learner through experience than through watching others and taking notes. Given the way this debut went, Browns backers are hopeful he shows that is the case.

“I’m not a, ‘I’m just watching, it’s just going to happen.’ No, like, I got to be out there, feel it,” Sanders said. “I got to move around. It’s like so many details that it takes for me to feel my best and play my best and I’m doing everything in my power and the team’s doing everything to help me get prepared.”
