Shedeur Sanders just turned in the biggest game of his career. Yet somehow, the Cleveland Browns quarterback is still answering questions about a wild rumor tied to his game-day wardrobe.
Sanders passed for 364 yards and accounted for four touchdowns in a 31-29 loss to the Tennessee Titans. But on a rushing touchdown, fans pointed out that it looked like the Browns’ rookie was wearing a thong under his gear.
Of course, Sanders’ brother, Shilo, couldn’t resist but take a shot at his brother and ask about it.
“Let’s cut to the business, bro,” Shilo said to Shedeur on a video call. “Did you wear a thong or not?”
Shedeur replied, “Come on, bro. You forget I have a back injury, right? So I get my back taped. That is crazy that it looked like that. That is funny, though. That was all back tape.”
Sanders later reposted the video with a two-word message.
“Y’all trippin,” Sanders said.
Shedeur Sanders’ Brother Gives Insight on Browns’ Controversial Call
Part of the drama during Sanders’ breakout performance came on the Browns’ decision-making in the most significant moment. On a potential game-tying two-point conversion, Cleveland lined up in the wildcat, taking Sanders off the field after he helped engineer the comeback. The play unraveled quickly. Running back Quinshon Judkins appeared to miss the handoff on a reverse, then tried to salvage it with a late throw that skipped incomplete, sealing the loss. Shilo Sanders weighed in on the call.
“I’d say as a fan, I’d be mad. But as a brother and a guy who has played, just do your job. They want to take you out, they take you out,” Shilo Sanders said. “If you’re in for the play, you’re in. Of course you want to win the game but you’re there to do a job. He doesn’t care about it. He doesn’t even talk about it. He’s just doing his job.”
That echoed what Shedeur said about the decision after the game.
“If I’m out there any play, you know, I would wish I would always have the ball in my hand, but that’s not what football is. Sometimes you got to run the ball, sometimes you got to kick a field goal,” Sanders said. “But I know we practiced something, and we executed it in practice, and we just didn’t seem to this day. So, I would never go against, you know, kind of like what the call was or anything.”
Shedeur Sanders Making Case to be Browns’ Franchise QB
Sanders has worked his way up the depth chart in Cleveland, evolving from a fifth-round pick into a quarterback the Browns need to evaluate seriously. He seized his shot when Dillon Gabriel went down with a concussion, and his play since then has earned him a longer runway. The Browns have announced that Sanders will be the starter for the rest of the year. Coach Kevin Stefanski praised Sanders for his growth and work ethic.
“With our quarterbacks and our young players, you’re always making sure that you’re making the right decisions for our guys. And I think he has constantly and consistently gotten better in each one of these games and how he’s approached his game,” Stefanski said. “He’s been working very hard, so I feel good about where his development is heading. He knows there are always going to be plays that he can be better and those types of things, but he’s very intentional about getting better each and every game he’s out there.”
The final four games will be critical for Cleveland, which owns two first-round picks in next year’s draft. If Sanders continues to progress, the Browns could decide he’s their quarterback of the future and pass on drafting a replacement.
