Browns’ Shedeur Sanders Gets Potential Good News on 2026

Even as new Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders prepares for his first start in the NFL, it is a bit early to start prognosticating about the future of the Browns roster, seeing as it remains uncertain whether the team will even bring back its coach, Kevin Stefanski, or its general manager, Andrew Berry. Cleveland is 2-8 and now 5-22 over the past two seasons, opening the very real possibility that the Browns go back to the drawing board, blow up the roster and start over.

Decisions in Cleveland might look a bit easier if there was a loaded quarterback board in the 2026 NFL draft, but, alas, that is not the case.

Still, the Browns need an overhaul on the offensive side of the ball, and not just at quarterback–the offensive line is universally heading into free agency and the team is understaffed at wide receiver. It won’t be a popular decision, but Cleveland could potentially go into the 2026 draft looking to write off the quarterback position altogether, instead seeking to replenish the offense and stay the course at quarterback.

Browns’ Weak QB Choices Could Extend Shedeur Sanders Run

That would be good news for Sanders, if he can make his Browns debut stick this week in Las Vegas, and perhaps audition for the job over the remainder of the season. While the likes of Fernando Mendoza, Dante Moore and Ty Simpson are most frequently linked to the Browns in mock drafts, if Sanders can show enough of a glimpse of competency at the position, maybe Cleveland will turn its attention to bolstering the offense.

That way, Sanders could continue to get a chance.

Give credit to Pro Football Focus–in their latest four-round Browns projection in the 2026 draft, the site has Cleveland bulking up at receiver and offensive tackle, two areas of need that the Browns need to address perhaps before adding a new quarterback.

Shedeur Sanders Getting a New OT & WR?

PFF has the Browns going with Arizona State star Jordyn Tyson with the No. 4 pick, and following that up with Alabama tackle Kadyn Proctor at No. 20, which is the Jaguars‘ pick. After taking Aveion Terrell, the Clemson cornerback, in the second round, the Browns would add two more offensive linemen, Jake Slaughter of Florida and Chase Bisontis of Texas A&M, in the next two rounds.

Not a quarterback to be found, of course. The Browns would, presumably, either stick with the development of Sanders in this scenario or perhaps sign a free agent who could compete with Sanders for the job next summer.

Browns’ Jordyn Tyson Would Be a ‘Dynamic Weapon’

Either way, a bolstered Browns offense would be good news for whichever quarterback–Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, or whomever–is given the reins in 2026. Especially if Tyson were to join the receiver room.

As PFF notes of Tyson: “While offensive tackle and quarterback are options for Cleveland’s first pick, Tyson stands out as the superior prospect on the board at this stage. Injuries have sidelined him for the past month, but he was one of the most dynamic weapons in the country over the first eight weeks of the college season, hauling in 57 catches with just one drop, eight touchdowns and 34 first downs.”
