Bruno Fernandes has accused Manchester United of living in the past and believes new players will find it ‘very difficult’ to win trophies at the club.
United were beaten 4-0 by Como in the Champions League on Wednesday night, which is their heaviest defeat in the competition since their 4-0 defeat to Barcelona in November 1994.
Michael Carrick’s side are now without a victory in seven games across all competitions and have registered just two wins all season.
In an interview with Sky Sport Italy after United’s heavy defeat to Como, Fernandes delivered a scathing analysis of the current situation at Old Trafford.

When asked about Lisandro Martinez’s recent comments and how United’s players can get out of their run of form, Fernandes replied: ‘Everyone at the club must understand that it’s not the same thing any more.
‘We’re not in the past and we need to look at the future. We need to do things different in the present. I think at this club, we focus too much on looking at what the club was in the past, what the club did in the past, but we are no longer the same. The club needs to understand that, we need to understand that.
‘Unfortunately for us, as a group of players, every time you come to this club you think about winning trophies and winning games, and being in the highest level but unfortunately it’s been very difficult at this club in the last few years. That’s the situation.’
In his own interview with Sky Sport Italy, Carrick was asked if he agreed with Fernandes’ verdict.
‘No, I don’t. But right now it’s a long way from that,’ Carrick replied.

‘When we came in January we picked up more points than anyone else until the end of the season, so this team has shown that it can achieve good results over a long period of time.
‘But the start of this season needs to be so much better, so much better.’
Asked if he is at risk of losing his job, Carrick replied: ‘I’m not the one who matters tonight, I don’t know what will happen but I’m not at the centre of the situation.
‘The important thing is the club, the history, the tradition and the values we represent and today we didn’t live up to that.’
