Buccaneers Get Major Injury Update on WR Chris Godwin Before Rams Game

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been battered on offense for the majority of the 2025 campaign, and it appears that those injuries may finally be catching up to them. After suffering back-to-back losses to the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills, the Bucs have suddenly found themselves in a battle for the top seed in the NFC South with the Carolina Panthers.

While the Bucs are facing some tough opponents, getting some of their top pieces back would certainly help. One guy who has missed a considerable amount of time is star wide receiver Chris Godwin, but according to a recent report, it sounds like he is set to make his return to action in the team’s pivotal contest against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 12.

Chris Godwin on Track to Play in Week 12

Godwin spent the early part of the 2025 campaign recovering from a gruesome dislocated ankle injury he suffered in 2024 that ended his season in Week 7. Just when it seemed like Godwin was getting up to speed, though, he reaggravated this injury, and he has spent the past several weeks working on recovering from his latest ailment.

With Mike Evans and Jalen McMillan also injured, that has forced rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka to step up, and he has delivered in a big way. With more teams focusing on Egbuka, though, that has put more pressure on Baker Mayfield under center, and he’s struggled to find open targets in the passing game at times.

The return of Godwin would surely help in that department. Not only is he fantastic at getting open at all three levels of the field, but he and Mayfield have a strong rapport that has helped lead to some gaudy numbers in the past. While Godwin is questionable to play in Week 12, recent reports indicate that he is good to go.

“A ravaged receiving corps is waiting on the return of Chris Godwin after he reinjured the fibula he fractured last season in Week 5 against the Seahawks. Two league sources say he is expected to return for ‘Sunday Night Football,’” Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported.

Buccaneers Looking to Snap Recent Losing Streak in Week 12

Even with their recent losing streak, the Bucs are still holding onto the top spot in their division, but it looks like the Panthers could provide some serious competition for them moving forward. In addition to their injury situation, it also doesn’t help that Tampa Bay has faced a difficult gauntlet of opponents as of late.

Things aren’t going to get any easier for them in Week 12 with the Rams on their schedule. L.A. is fresh off a statement victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 11, and it appears this team may be the top contender in the NFC currently. That’s a big reason why Godwin’s impending return is so important, even if he needs to get eased into the action. With this game taking place on Sunday Night Football, kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET.
