If we are taking account of all the injuries that have befallen the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense in 2025, we’re going to be here for awhile.
Almost on one has been immune to the injury bug for the Buccaneers to this point, although only one player has suffered a season ending injury — starting guard Cody Mauch hurt his knee in a Week 2 win over the Houston Texans.
Now, the Buccaneers might see their luck come back around with a pair of positive injury updates on the offensive line with right offensive tackle Luke Goedeke and guard Ben Bredeson.
Goedeke has been out with a foot injury since Week 2.
Bredeson has started all 8 games for the Buccaneers this season but his status was in doubt for a first place showdown against the New England Patriots in Week 10.
“Ben Bredeson, listed as limited with a shoulder yesterday, seems fine and is practicing,” Bucs Gameday’s River Wells wrote on X on Friday, November 7.
“Luke Goedeke practiced again,” Pewter Report’s Matty Matera wrote on X. “He looks ready to go for Sunday.”
“Luke Goedeke looked very normal at practice,” Fox Sports NFL reporter Greg Auman wrote on his official X account. “They wanted to make sure he felt good coming off Thursday, and it certainly seems like he’ll be activated off IR and start Sunday. We’ll see what (Todd) Bowles says.”
Bucs Spent Big on Bredeson in Offseason
In relative terms, the Buccaneers spent big on Bredeson this offseason.
In 2024, he was a surprise, 17-game starter for Tampa Bay on a 1-year, $3 million free agent contract after projected starter Sua Opeta tore his ACL in the preseason.
Getting Bredeson back quickly turned into a priority for the Buccaneers.
From The Pewter Report in February: “Given the challenge of finding a suitable replacement, it would be wise for the Buccaneers to prioritize re-signing Ben Bredeson to a long-term contract, ensuring continuity and stability on their offensive line … the Buccaneers are already potentially losing a quality backup lineman in Robert Hainsey to free agency, so losing a starter as well would be a huge hit.”
The Buccaneers rewarded Bredeson, 6-foot-5 and 315 pounds, with a 3-year, $22 million contract in March. The new contract included $12.5 million in guaranteed money.
Buccaneers Had Patchwork OL Early in Season
While losing Mauch, who had started every game through his first 3 seasons, was a blow, the Buccaneers might have the closest semblance to a full offensive line back when they get Goedeke back in the lineup.
It will also be the first time 2-time Pro Bowl quarterback Baker Mayfield will have both of his projected starting offensive tackles protecting him. NFL All-Pro left offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs missed the first 3 games as he recovered from minor knee surgery, with starting center Graham Barton moving over to start in his place.
Goedeke signed a 4-year, $90 million contract extension on September 2. Veteran Charlie Heck has done a serviceable job filling in for Goedeke while he’s been injured — what could be another benefit for the Buccaneers moving forward if anyone else up front gets hurt.
