People are talking about the Chicago Bears and for all of the right reasons. The team is at the top of the NFC North, and new head coach Ben Johnson has already made an incredible turnaround with this team in less than a year’s time.
Now, the Bears have a test. On Black Friday, November 28, the team will take on the Philadelphia Eagles, who have a 8-3 record, just like the Bears. But, the Philadelphia Eagles’ last game was against the Dallas Cowboys, and they lost that game, so it’s more than possible that the Bears’ game will have a similar result.
But first, of course, the Bears have to do the hard work to win. Johnson is making sure that’s the case, and ahead of the game, quarterback Caleb Williams opened up about what Johnson has done to change this team. It’s not just about making plays and playing good football. What Johnson has brought to this team is something more.
Now, there have been reports that Williams and Johnson have had struggles together, but to hear Williams talk, it sounds like the dynamic of a parent giving tough love to their child. Sometimes, you have to discipline to get the best out of players.
Caleb Williams Talks Winning Culture With Ben Johnson and the Chicago Bears
When asked about the winning culture that Johnson is instilling in the team, Williams said that he now has a belief, thanks to Johnson and his coaching staff.
“When you have a certain amount of belief between all three phases—from the players on special teams, defense and offense—that belief becomes contagious,” Williams said according to the Chisago Bears’ official website. “That’s something that Ben has provided in us, and the other coaches have provided in us and instilled in us.”
Veteran safety Kevin Byard III also had some glowing words for him, stating, “I’ve talked about this from the beginning, how Chicago’s got the right guy in place, just the type of culture he’s been able to set from the beginning since he’s been here.”
He added, “He’s been awesome. He’s been great for this culture. I don’t think we could have [said], ‘Hey, we’re going to be 8-3 to start this year.’ But I just knew just from the process that we had, from the spring up to this point, it’s a winning culture and it’s a winning process.”
Caleb Williams is Delivering for the Chicago Bears
Following a lackluster rookie season with the team, Johnson is helping Williams become the kind of quarterback that Chicago truly thought he would eventually become. The Bears drafted Williams with their No. 1 overall pick during the 2024 NFL draft, and they expected him to deliver. Now, he’s giving the Bears the kind of dream season that they’ve wanted to years. It’s exactly why they took a chance on him in the first place.
Critics still go with the Eagles for the win, at least many of them. Neil Parker of Yahoo Sports says in a preview feature out on Monday, November 24, that the Eagles will “have their way on offense and continue their dominant run at Lincoln Financial Field on Friday.” Now, it’s time to prove him wrong.
