Caleb Williams Sends Warning to NFL After Bears’ Comeback Win Over Giants

The Chicago Bears continue to find ways to scratch out wins in games that are close late and in contests that they trail down the stretch.

Most recently Chicago trailed the New York Giants by 10 points (20-10) with just over 10 minutes to play in a Week 10 game at Soldier Field on Sunday, November 9. The Bears finished the day with two unanswered touchdowns, capturing their sixth win in the last seven outings.

“It does build confidence,” Caleb Williams said of winning games like the one the Bears captured against the Giants. “It doesn’t matter the deficit we’re at, doesn’t matter how much we’re up … we can come through as a team.”

Williams added that the team would prefer, and is angling toward, not putting itself in a position where comebacks are so frequently necessary and scores are so tight all the way to the final whistle. But the notion of confidence emerged as a theme for Williams during his postgame press conference, and he identified it as a key to the Bears’ success in those high-pressure, high-leverage circumstances.

“The confidence in us and the confidence in the coaches in those moments is there. And I think that shows in those moments,” Williams continued. “Obviously, it wasn’t our best game on offense. But the calmness at the end of the game, the belief, the faith, the hope. And like I’ve spoke about before, living in the know.”

Williams finished the afternoon 20-for-36 passing for 220 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed the football eight times for 63 yards and a score.

Running backs D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai combined for 20 carries, 108 rushing yards and one touchdown on the afternoon.

Chicago’s first fourth-quarter scoring drive began with just over six minutes to play. It spanned 91 yards, took two minutes and 17 seconds to complete and ended with a two-yard TD pass to wide receiver Rome Odunze.

The Bears’ second scoring drive, which put the team up by what was ultimately the final score of 24-20, started with just under three minutes remaining. Chicago drove 53 yards in just four plays, capping the comeback with a 17-yard touchdown run by Williams.

Williams connected with tight end Colston Loveland for a 58-yard TD pass in the final seconds of the Bears’ 47-42 victory over the Bengals in Cincinnati last weekend.

Ben Johnson Praises Bears’ Toughness at End of Games

Bears head coach Ben Johnson also spoke about the team’s late-game grit and the pattern that has been emerging over the last several weeks.

“I told the guys in the locker room a minute ago, it really feels like I’m on repeat here. These guys are finding a way to fight until the end and win these games,” Johnson said during his postgame press conference. “It’s easy to feel the momentum swing in their favor, and yet our guys didn’t waver. They stayed consistent with it and fought until the end.”

Chicago, now 6-3, has won four games by five points or less. The Bears will travel to Minneapolis to take on the Minnesota Vikings on November 16 in a rematch from Week 1, during which the Vikings came back from 11 points down in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.
