The Chicago Bears are gearing up for a new season, which is coming quickly, and there’s lots of excitement surrounding the franchise this year. Much of that expectation is surrounding new head coach Ben Johnson, who hails from the Detroit Lions. Johnson has already worked wonders with this team, which is easy to see by looking at their successful preseason. Sure, it was just the preseason, but it shows strong coaching abilities.
The Bears will open their season against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday, September 8, at home. There have been some jitters around franchise quarterback Caleb Williams, mainly because he didn’t quite take off last season as much as the franchise had hoped. Plus, there seemed to be some growing pains between Williams and Johnson, as he got used to working with a new, offensive-minded coaching staff.
But, some good news has emerged ahead of the Bears’ opening game, and it’s something that should make those in the Windy City rest a little easier at night.

Johnson met with the media on Wednesday, September 3, and it’s no surprise that he was asked about Williams. Johnson said some glowing things about Williams and seems to think he’s really ready to go.
“We’re going to grow together,” Johnson said during the presser. “This offense is going to grow together with him, and you know, there’ll some bumpy steps along the way. But that’s OK. That’s the nature of doing it. I feel really good about where he’s at right now. There’s no reason why we can’t win this year.”
Well, it doesn’t get much better than those statements. Johnson feels “really good” about where Williams is at, and he thinks this team can win.
Bears Quarterback Opens Up About Ben Johnson
Williams also sounds very confident in Johnson. After working with him for a few months, it sounds like these two have finally hit their stride together and believe in each other.
“I have the utmost confidence in Ben — his coaching ability, his play calling, and all of that,” Williams said. “So I think it comes down to being able to execute exactly what he puts out there for us as a team, as an offense, and you know, when things are — you know, throughout the week, you know, we’re messing up and things like that, what you’re going to have is we’ve got to get back to how to redo it, so that when it happens on gameday, we go out there and execute exactly what he dishes out for us.”
Looking across the NFC North, Johnson’s old boss, Dan Campbell from the Lions, is taking the high road and says he doesn’t have any special, taunting plays lined up for Chicago. Speaking with WXYZ sports director Brad Galli, Campbell said that he’ll treat his games against the Bears the same as he would going up against any other team, but added that he’s going to be “out for blood.”
The Chicago Bears will be out for blood, too, Campbell. Let the fun begin, and it all starts with some big rivalries in the NFC North.
