The New York Giants cannot seem to catch a break. Just when it seems like things are beginning to go their way, they suffer gut punch after gut punch. In Week 8, the latest devastating blow came in the form of a season-ending ankle injury for star running back Cam Skattebo, who has quickly become one of the most popular players in the league.
With Skattebo and Jaxson Dart leading the way on offense, the Giants looked as potent as ever, but another serious injury has made things even more difficult for the team moving forward. In the wake of Skattebo’s season coming to an end, he received a heartwarming gift from an unexpected friend: Philadelphia Eagles‘ Chief of Security Dom “Big Dom” DiSandro.
Cam Skattebo Receives Unexpected Gift from Eagles
After a standout 2024 season with the Arizona State Sun Devils, Skattebo was selected by New York in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. After a slow start, Skattebo quickly took over as the Giants’ starting running back, and his propensity for embracing contact earned him quite a few fans across the NFL.
Skattebo wasn’t putting up the numbers fans were accustomed to seeing from him during his time in college, but he was still a very productive member of New York’s offense. In eight games, Skattebo racked up 410 yards and five touchdowns on 101 carries, while also catching 24 passes for 207 yards and another pair of scores.
Against the Eagles on Sunday, Skattebo suffered a gruesome dislocated ankle injury, and for folks who had the misfortune of seeing the injury, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the rookie running back’s season is over. After he ended up at the hospital on Sunday, Philadelphia made a heartwarming move by sending pizza and cheesesteaks to Skattebo while he was still at the hospital.
“Cam Skattebo had a surprise visitor at Penn Presbyterian on Monday: Eagles Do-it-all Chief of Security Dom DiSandro, who dropped off pizza and cheesesteaks for the Giants rookie while he was still at the Philly hospital after dislocating his ankle on Sunday,” Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer shared in a post on X.
Giants Must Move Forward Without Cam Skattebo

Considering how the Giants were already without star wide receiver Malik Nabers after he suffered a torn ACL earlier this season, losing Skattebo becomes an even bigger loss for the team. Dart has largely been finding a way to make do with a less-than-stellar supporting cast, and things just got a whole lot more difficult for him now that his partner-in-crime is done for the year.
With Skattebo out, that leaves Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Devin Singletary as New York’s top two running backs, and they will be leaned on to help Dart out throughout the remainder of the season. Both guys have starting experience, and given how shorthanded the team is on offensive playmakers in general, chances are they both will see an uptick in snaps moving forward. New York will be back in action in Week 9 when it takes on the San Francisco 49ers.
