Canucks Trade 6-Foot-8 Veteran Defender to Stars

The Vancouver Canucks are one of the NHL’s top sellers to watch with the 2026 NHL trade deadline just two days away. The Canucks began their latest rebuild earlier this season when they traded defenseman Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild in a blockbuster. They then dealt forward Kiefer Sherwood to the San Jose Sharks back in January.

Yet, with the Canucks being in selling mode and the NHL’s worst team, there is no question that they have several more trade candidates to keep an eye on this week. Among them are Jake DeBrusk, Conor Garland, Elias Pettersson, Teddy Blueger, Evander Kane, and David Kampf.

However, one of the Canucks’ other top trade candidates of this week is officially off the board and has found a new home with the Dallas Stars.

Canucks Trade Defenseman Tyler Myers to Stars

According to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun, the Canucks have traded defenseman Tyler Myers to the Dallas Stars in exchange for a 2027 second-round pick and a 2029 fourth-round pick. LeBrun also shared that the Canucks will retain 50% of Myers’ salary for the remainder of his contract.

Myers had been one of the Canucks’s most notable trade candidates and was held out of their lineup for roster-management reasons. As a result, it was no secret that the Canucks were working to trade Myers, and now they have done just that by sending him to the Stars.

The holdup on a trade was Myers’ full no-movement clause, as he had complete say over if and where he would get traded by the Canucks. Now, he has agreed to a move to the Stars, and he will have the chance to play for one of the NHL’s top contenders in the process.

The Stars, on the other hand, are finally getting a much-needed upgrade for the right side of their defense. It is no secret that the weakest part of the Stars’ roster is the right side of the blueline, but Myers should help improve things on that front. When looking at their current roster, the veteran defenseman could be a nice fit on their second pairing. However, even if he plays third-pairing minutes, he would still provide the Stars’ defense with more experience and stability.

NHL Trade Market Still Has Many Other Defensemen Left

Myers was one of the top blueliners available on the trade market, so he had interest from multiple teams. While the Stars ended up landing the 6-foot-8 blueliner, other contenders still have many other defenseman trade options available for the taking.

A few trade candidate defenseman who are still available for trade include Justin Faulk, Colton Parayko, Braden Schneider, MacKenzie Weegar, Zach Whitecloud, and Rasmus Ristolainen. With this, the NHL could still see several more defensemen get traded between now and the trade deadline.

However, the Stars have ended up winning the Myers sweepstakes, and the fit looks strong on paper. The Canucks, on the other hand, have landed a solid return for one of their top trade chips, and it will be interesting to see what moves they make next.
