Romantic pairings of NFL players and celebrities are becoming something of a trend. The most famous football-showbiz couple, of course, has to be Kansas City Chiefs future Hall of Fame tight end and pop music mega-star â perhaps the most famous celebrity in the world â Taylor Swift. While hardcore football fans may not be enamored of the publicity showered on the pair, “Swifties” can’t seem to get enough of it.
Then there’s Buffalo Bills quarterback and reigning NFL MVP Josh Allen and Hollywood actress Hailee Steinfeld, who was most recently seen in the hit horror film Sinners.
Allen and Steinfeld generated a publicity spree of their own on May 31 by getting married, holding a lavish ceremony attended by Allen’s teammates and celebrities alike in Santa Barbara, California.
Patriots Receiver, Rapper are Latest NFL-Showbiz Couple
But the latest couple to join the NFL-show business parade seems much less interested in seeking publicity for their budding romance. That would be superstar rapper Cardi B and New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
The pair publicly confirmed their much-rumored liaison on May 12, when they appeared courtside together at Madison Square Garden in New York City, to take in an NBA playoff game between the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics.
But less than two months later, the internet is suddenly abuzz with rumors that Diggs, 31, and the 32-year-old Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar aka Cardi B have called it quits.
According to a report by E! News, “the ‘Money’ rapper is raising eyebrows with her social media activity â this time sparking rumors as to whether she and the NFL star have called off their relationship. Most notably, the June 1 post where they went Instagram Official appears to have been deleted from both of their accounts.”
The rap superstar is currently going through a divorce, after she filed papers May 30 to terminate her eight-year marriage to Kiari Kendrell Cephus, 33, known professionally as the rapper Offset.
Cardi B Four-Word Message to ‘Bored’ Gossip Hounds
The Bronx, New York, native quickly made her thoughts known about the online speculation regarding her relationship status with Diggs, posting a four-word statement to her X (formerly Twitter) account simply telling the gossip-mongers to “shut the f*** up.”
She followed that blunt message with a more family-friendly, but nonetheless pointed post that told those gossiping online about her status with Diggs to “Go to dinner, go shopping, go to the park â¦Get off the internetâ¦ENOUGH!!”
Her final piece of advice to her fans, in a third post, was to “ignore the bored.” Apparently, her statement was in reference to people who seemingly have nothing better to do than post on the internet, making snarky and negative remarks about celebrities because they are “bored” with their own lives.
In a further attempt to confirm that she remains involved with the Patriots receiver â who signed a three-year, $69 million free agent contract with New England in March â Cardi B on Tuesday posted a video of herself engaged in a gym workout with Diggs.
It was only last month that the couple vacationed in France, where Diggs reportedly rented an actual medieval castle, which she described online as “insane.”
