Celtics’ Jaylen Brown Sends Message To Anthony Edwards: “Gotta Go Through Me”

Jaylen Brown is shouldering a lot of responsibilities for the Boston Celtics this season. He’s their primary offensive option and their leader on and off the court. However, that hasn’t stopped Brown from dipping his toes into the live-streaming world.

Brown has become a regular on Twitch, amassing a dedicated following in the process. During his latest livestream, the All-Star forward had a message for Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards.

“When it’s all said and done, I think, Ant Man has got the chance to be the best player from Georgia, all time,” Brown said. “But I ain’t going to lie. He got to go through me.”

Edwards is widely seen as one of the best young American-born players in the NBA. He’s rapidly becoming a superstar and a fan-favorite among NBA fans worldwide. However, he can still take his game to another level, and until he does, Brown clearly believes he’s still the better player.

In fairness, Brown is playing like a superstar this season. In 24 games, he’s averaging 29.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.8 assists, shooting 49.9% from the field and 36.7% from deep. His mid-range game has become a major weapon for Boston, too, as Brown continues to prove that he’s among the best mid-range shooters on the planet.

Celtics’ Jaylen Brown Is 5th In The MVP Ladder

With Brown leading the way, the Celtics have cemented themselves as one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference. Even without Jayson Tatum, who is sidelined with an Achilles tendon injury, Mazzulla’s team boasts a 15-10 record.

As such, Brown’s stock around the NBA has risen considerably. In the latest release of the NBA’s MVP ladder, the Georgia native ranks fifth, behind Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luka Doncic and Cade Cunningham.

Given the amount of elite-level competition Brown faces, it’s unlikely that he will win the 2026 MVP award. Nevertheless, the fact that he’s currently in the top five is proof of what he’s capable of when given the keys to the offense.

Jaylen Brown Calls Out “Floppers” On Live Stream

During a recent live stream, Brown took aim at some of the MVP candidates in recent years. He noted how some elite scorers in the league have a knack of getting to the free-throw line, joking that in order to become an MVP, “you’ve gotta sell your soul.”

“If you wanna be a great player, you gotta sell your soul,” Brown said. “You gotta be a flopper. If you wanna be an MVP, you wanna be top of the top, you gotta sell your soul and just be a flopper.”

Brown is getting to the free-throw line at a career-high rate this season, averaging 7.2 attempts at the charity stripe per game. However, those numbers pale in comparison to Doncic’s 12.2 attempts per night or Gilgeous-Alexander’s 9.9.

Despite his limited whistle when driving the lane, Brown is still finding ways to be an effective scorer. Whether he continues to perform at a higher level than Edwards will remain to be seen. But for now, he certainly deserves his spot in the MVP race and the recognition he’s getting for a stellar start to the season.
