The New York Yankees would love to see another championship banner, not a participation ribbon, when the book closes on the 2026 season. That’s why they ought to spend their money wisely. Acquiring a versatile talent on the mound is one top priority, but so is bringing back Cody Bellinger.
However, they face more than one obstacle. Two World Series-calibre teams have varying degrees of interest in the slugger. Bellinger, 30, connected for 160 hits, 29 home runs, and 98 RBIs in 2025.
Toronto Blue Jays & Los Angeles Dodgers Are Circling Cody Bellinger
The Yankees’ chances of bringing back Bellinger dwindle with every passing day. In a new report from Jeff Passan, the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers were revealed as suitors for the free agent outfielder.
“Beyond the Yankees, who would like a return engagement with Bellinger,” Passan wrote for TSN on November 18, 2025. “The Blue Jays see him as a perfectly good alternative to Tucker. And the Dodgers, who nontendered Bellinger three years ago, have expressed interest as they peruse the outfield market.”
Before coming to the Yankees in 2025, Bellinger spent time with the Chicago Cubs and the Dodgers.
Bellinger spent six seasons with the Dodgers, from 2017 to 2022. His most productive season was in 2019. That year, the 30-year-old hit 47 home runs, 115 RBIs, and connected on 170 hits, while earning a batting average of .305. His home runs, RBIs, and hits were all career highs.
Bellinger’s Future is in Kyle Tucker’s Hands
The Yankees will receive some good news on the Bellinger front once things are settled with another big-name slugger, Kyle Tucker.
Included in the Passan report is the market on Tucker.
“The Blue Jays, coming off their first World Series berth in more than three decades, have no plans to slow down,” Passan revealed. “They are considered the favorite by other executives to land Tucker. If Schwarber leaves Philadelphia, Tucker makes plenty of sense there.”
Tucker swung for 22 home runs, 73 RBIs, and 133 hits while earning a .266 batting average this past season. He would be a significant boost to the Blue Jays’ offense, ensuring they remain a World Series contender heading into 2026.
It would also check off one competitor from signing the man the Yankees are keen on bringing back, Bellinger.
The Favorites to Land Bellinger
In a surprise twist, neither the Dodgers nor the Blue Jays is the betting favorite to land Bellinger. According to BetOnline, that honor belongs to a different New York team.
The betting site has the New York Mets as the favorite to land Bellinger, with odds of +250. The Houston Astros follow closely behind at +350, with the Cubs third at +450.
The Philadelphia Phillies own the fourth-best odds of +550. Occupying the fifth and sixth-best odds are the Blue Jays and Dodgers, who have odds of +750 and +800, respectively.
So even if the Dodgers decide to sniff elsewhere, the Yankees will be in tough to bring back Bellinger. That may leave them to start Spencer Jones in the MLB rather than give him further seasoning in the minors.
There’s never a dull day in New York.
