Chargers GM Reveals Promising News on Injured RB Najee Harris

The Los Angeles Chargers had some good news come out of camp yesterday as general manager Joe Hortiz announced on CBS that running back Najee Harris “should be able to go, hopefully in week one.”

Harris was injured in a non-football incident on July 4 when a fireworks mishap caused an eye injury. The specifics of the injury have been kept quiet by the Chargers camp.

Nevertheless, Harris resumed his work at training camp last week, though he has not suited up for any of the Chargers’ preseason games. This is Harris’ first season with the Chargers after he played out the entirety of his rookie contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Chargers signed him for one season this offseason at a rate of $5.25 million.

If Harris isn’t activated by Tuesday, Aug. 26, he will be ineligible to play until week five. He hasn’t missed a single game in his career.

Backfield Will Have a New Look in 2025 for Los Angeles

If Najee Harris is available to start the season he will give the Chargers a much needed boost in the backfield where they have had a rotating door of running backs the last few years.

The Chargers also have an exciting rookie sharing the room with Harris in the form of Omarion Hampton, who was picked 22nd overall in the 2025 draft out of North Carolina. Hampton had 1,600 yards and 15 touchdowns in 12 games with the Tar Heels last season and has shown flashes of excellence in camp this season.

Harris’ reliability will be a huge asset for Los Angeles, who will be looking for him to be a first and second down back. Although Harris has limited big play ability, Hampton will be a good match as someone who can explode down the field. The tandem complements each other well and should give the Chargers offense a versatile dynamic.

Could This Be the Season Chiefs Lose The AFC West?

It’s been ten years since a team other than the Kansas City Chiefs has won the AFC West, but 2025 is probably the most open the division has been during the Patrick Mahomes era. Many NFL experts are predicting it will be a down year Kansas City with several of their star players getting older and the emergence of Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos as serious competition to overthrow the dynasty.

The Chargers and Broncos have both been building towards being contenders for years now. Now that the Broncos have found their QB of the future in Nix and rounded out the roster after a successful 10 win season with him in year one, while the Chargers had a strong draft after their 11 win season, the Chiefs have two teams breathing down their back.

I think this will be the season the Chiefs finally end their streak of being front-runners and are instead relegated to battling for a wild card spot.
