Over the course of the first three weeks of the 2025 NFL season, the Los Angeles Chargers looked like one of the best teams in the league. The offense seemed to be clicking with star quarterback Justin Herbert looking locked in while the defense was formidable containing divisional opponents in three straight weeks.
Unfortunately for the Chargers, the team has really struggled during their last four games, resulting in three losses, with the Indianapolis Colts being the latest to get the best of Herbert and company at SoFi Stadium. Daniel Jones and company put up 38 points against the defense, pulling off the 14-point win on the road in Los Angeles.
After the loss to the Colts, four-time All-Pro safety Derwin James didn’t hold back on his assessment of the Chargers’ defense.

After the Chargers’ third loss in the last four games, James blasted the team’s effort defensively during media availability in the locker room.
“We played like [expletitive],” James said, “We looked like trash. We gave up 40 points in our own stadium. We weren’t locked in on the details. Simple [expletitive] to the flat, boots, everything we practiced.”
As if it wasn’t bad enough that the team is coming off arguably the worst loss of the 2025 campaign thus far, the Chargers won’t have much time to dust themselvs off. Los Angeles will play host to the Minnesota Vikings on a short week, as they’ll get back to work on Thursday at SoFi Stadium against a team that will also be looking to bounce back.
The Vikings are coming off a disappointing eight-point loss to the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. Minnesota will try to prevent falling below .500 while Los Angeles will attempt to stay above .500.

Although the season is trending in the wrong direction for the Chargers, James let it be known how they can turn things around and get back on a track as a force to be reckoned with in the AFC moving forward.
“We just got to look inward and be better,” James said. “I keep saying the same [expletitive]. The last three or four weeks, I’ve been saying the same thing.”
Chargers head coach Jim Harabugh also chimes in on the team’s struggles, which he believes is in all phases of the game.
“Improvements need to be made, really, in all phases,” Harbaugh said.
Even though the team isn’t in a great situation right now after three losses in four weeks, it is still early enough in the regular season for this talented squad to get back on track and make a run at the NFL playoffs. However, there’s a lot of work to do to turn the corner.
After facing the Vikings in Week 8, the Chargers will have a few more tough matchups down the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs (twice), Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans and Denver Broncos.
