Chelsea are ‘open’ to selling Filip Jorgensen this summer after the goalkeeper indicated his desire to leave the club, according to reports.

Jorgensen joined the Blues two seasons ago from Spanish side Villarreal for a fee of £20.7million.

The Danish goalkeeper was expected to compete for the number one spot with Robert Sanchez, but has made just 11 Premier League appearances over the two seasons.

Jorgensen did have a brief stint as a starter under Liam Rosenior, but an error-strewn display in the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain, followed by a groin injury, saw him start just one more game before the end of the season.

And while the arrival of Xabi Alonso could lead to a change in fortunes for Jorgensen, the BBC reports that the 24-year-old has already expressed his desire to leave the club this summer to get more regular minutes.

Chelsea blocked a potential exit in the January transfer window, but the club are now open to a sale, with European and English clubs expected to explore a deal.

Sanchez is expected to remain at the club, while Chelsea could also incorporate young goalie Mike Penders into the first-team picture next season.

Penders made 52 appearances on loan at Strasbourg, helping the French club finish eighth in Ligue 1 as well as reach the Conference League semi-finals.

The 20-year-old’s form also saw him named in Belgium’s 26-man squad for the World Cup alongside Thibaut Courtois and Senne Lammens.

Alonso may consider Penders as a first-choice option given he has already shown his impressive capabilities on the ball while on loan in France.

And the incoming Chelsea boss has already been urged to consider replacing Sanchez by former Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt, who labelled the Spaniard a ‘liability’ between the posts.

‘I think the goalkeeper is a problem there at Chelsea, he’s a liability,’ Butt said on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast. ‘He can’t play the way they will want to play.’

Responding to Butt’s comments, Scholes said: ‘With the way Chelsea will play, I agree. He can’t do it.

‘I’m pretty sure Xabi Alonso will want to play that way, to build out from the back, so he will need a new goalkeeper then.’
