The 2025 WNBA campaign has not gone the Chicago Sky‘s way. With four games left on their schedule, the Sky have labored to a 10-30 record, and it appears things are coming to a particularly ugly end for All-Star center Angel Reese, as she has earned herself her second suspension in only a matter of days.
After being assessed her eighth technical foul of the season in the Sky’s 88-64 win over the Connecticut Sun, Reese picked up an automatic one-game suspension, which she will serve on Friday night when Chicago plays the Indiana Fever. Before this game, though, the Sky announced a shocking suspension for their star center in their following game against the Las Vegas Aces.

While Chicago has once again endured another tough season, Reese has made strides in her game this season. In 30 games, Reese is averaging 14.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game while shooting 45.8% from the field. That earned her the second All-Star selection of her career, as she continues to establish herself as one of the top centers in the WNBA.
The problem is that the rest of the Sky is a bit of a mess, and Reese did not hold back when discussing the state of the team recently. With the 2025 season wrapping up, Reese urged Chicago to make sweeping changes to bring in “good players,” while also openly questioning the effectiveness of first-year head coach Tyler Marsh.
While Reese later walked back those comments, the Sky did not take too kindly to her criticism of her teammates. With Reese already being suspended for the team’s clash with the Fever, they announced on Friday that she will also be suspended for the first half of their game against the Aces on Sept. 7 due to her recent controversial comments.
“The Chicago Sky values the safety, respect, and well-being of every player,” the Sky said in a statement posted on X. “We are committed to accountability so our players can stay focused on playing basketball.”
“Because of statements detrimental to the team made by Angel Reese during league-mandated media, she will not play in the first half of the game on September 7 against the Las Vegas Aces. This matter has been handled and resolved internally, and we are moving forward as a team.”

Reese clearly is not happy with the current state of the Sky, and she has not been shy when it comes to expressing that. With the team now suspending her for bashing her teammates, it’s fair to wonder whether the team could opt to trade her this upcoming offseason if they feel there is no coming back from these comments.
For now, Reese will serve her suspension, and it will be interesting to see if she ends up playing at all in the upcoming contest against the Aces. In the immediate future, the Sky will return to the court against the Fever at 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday night.
