Chiefs Announce Landmark Patrick Mahomes News at Lions Game

The Kansas City Chiefs and Detroit Lions went at it during Sunday Night Football on October 12, and it was a big night for Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, as well as tight end Travis Kelce. It’s always exciting when the Chiefs are at Arrowhead for a Sunday night game, but this showdown went above the rest, because both the Chiefs and Lions are considered two of the strongest teams in the NFL this season. The final score was 30-17, with the Chiefs taking it.

Mahomes made NFL history on Sunday, and he’s worked hard for it. During the game, the Chiefs made a special announcement that shows that Mahcomes is one of the greatest of all time.

Oh, and before we get to the announcement, it’s worth mentioning that, yes, Taylor Swift was at the game. She usually only attends home games because of security concerns, so it makes sense that she would make sure to be at this one. Swift was spotted in a VIP area with WNBA star Caitlin Clark.

Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes Makes History

Mahomes made notable NFL history during the Sunday evening’s game against the Detroit Lions. With his six-yard pass to Chiefs star Xavier Worthy, Mahomes became the fastest player in NFL history to reach 300 career touchdown passes, including the postseason.

Mahomes hit that 300 touchdown milestone in 139 games, breaking the record that was previously held by a player you might recognize named Aaron Rodgers. The latter threw his 300th touchdown pass during his 147th game.

Mahomes is one of the reasons why Kelce loves playing in Kansas City. After last week’s loss to the Jags, Kelce told the press, “I just love coming into work with these guys right here,” Travis said, also saying that the culture of the Chiefs organization “has become my way of life.”

He added, “The expectations every single year, year in and year out, is Super Bowl or failure. And the eye in the sky doesn’t lie, baby. You see those first two games, and we were a few plays here and there, a few decisions here and there away from being an undefeated football team.”

Chiefs Tight End Travis Kelce Has Records, Too

Kelce has officially been breaking records, too. On Thursday, October 9, the team announced that Kelce holds the NFL record for the most receptions by a tight end through his first 13 seasons. Jason Witten is just below him. Congrats, “Wood.”

During the Jags game, Kelce also made some special history. With his two-yard touchdown catch against the Jaguars, the popular tight end broke the franchise record for points scored in a career among non-kickers. This was on top of the record that the Chiefs shared during the game, where Kelce racked up the most all-purpose yards in the history of the Chiefs. So, it was a good night for Kelce, even if that didn’t show in the final score.

So, both Mahomes and Kelce are winners. Now, it’s time for the Chiefs to rest up for a few days, because they don’t have a bye week until Week 10.
