The Kansas City Chiefs are excited for the season debut of their top playmaker on Sunday. WR Rashee Rice served a six-game suspension to start the 2025 season for violating the league’s Personal Conduct Policy. Back in July, Rice was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years of probation for his role in a multicar crash in the 2024 offseason. He pleaded guilty to a pair of felony chargers, including racing on a highway causing bodily injury.
But now he’s back, just in time for the Chiefs’ Week 7 matchup against the Raiders. Rice was Kansas City’s top receiver last year, going for 24 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns in just four games before suffering a serious knee injury that ended his season prematurely.
Rice’s return to the field has been a long time coming, but the Chiefs are excited to get him back. Their other top receiver, Xavier Worthy, has been banged up this year with a dislocated shoulder and missed some time. Having both back in the fold gives QB Patrick Mahomes his full complement of weapons to attack opposing defenses.

“Yeah, I mean, he looks sharp,” Reid said on Rice’s return during his press conference on Friday. “I mean, it’s not a game, but what we asked him to do he did well. The one thing is, you can tell he’s in good shape. It’s always your worry when somebody misses a few weeks, because it’s different when you’re playing. But he busted his tail, did a nice job there, now it’s just a matter of getting in the game and getting reps there. So we’ll see how all that goes.”
“Yeah, listen, he always has great energy,” Reid continued. “I mean I mentioned that before but it was good to get him back. And he’s a positive guy that works hard, so it’s good to have him here. I mean, I’m sure he’s excited to play. He hasn’t played in a real game for a year and six weeks or whatever it is.”
The Kansas City Chiefs are Starting to Pick Up Steam
Despite making the Super Bowl last season and entering the year as one of the top contenders to win the AFC, the Chiefs got off to a slow start. They lost their first two games of the season, dropping the season opener in São Paulo to the Chargers and losing in Week 2 to the Eagles.
But now the Chiefs are 3-3, coming off a win over the Lions, and they’re getting healthy. After they play the Raiders, Kansas City has games against the Commanders, Bills, Broncos, and Colts, so their schedule doesn’t get any easier.
Still, a full-strength Chiefs teams should scare the rest of the league. Everyone knows what they can do when this offense is clicking, and they finally have the personnel to get as creative as they want. The Chiefs are coming.
