Chiefs Kingdom Still Believes — Here’s Who They Need to Root For in Week 15

Kansas City Chiefs fans are not backing down, even as the team faces one of its toughest stretches in years. With the Chiefs sitting at 6-7 and outside the playoff picture heading into Week 15, the margin for error is gone. Still, the loyalty remains unmistakable. Chiefs Senior Team Reporter Matt McMullen captured that reality in a social media post showing fans tailgating in frigid conditions ahead of Sunday’s game — a reminder that belief in Kansas City hasn’t disappeared, even if national narratives suggest otherwise.

Chiefs Fans Still Showing Support Despite Playoff Odds

Around the NFL, plenty of fans appear ready to declare the end of the Chiefs’ reign. The pursuit of a historic three-peat has stalled, close games haven’t fallen Kansas City’s way, and the team’s aura of inevitability feels shaken. But inside the Kingdom, the mindset is different.

When the season began, many believed this was one of the most talented Chiefs rosters in years. That makes the current record especially frustrating, and it has sparked widespread debate about whether the dynasty is truly over. By traditional standards, a dynasty requires three Super Bowl wins in five seasons — a mark Kansas City already secured by winning titles following the 2019, 2022, and 2023 seasons.

That legacy remains intact. The Chiefs still feature pillars of those championship runs, including head coach Andy Reid, general manager Brett Veach, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce, defensive star Chris Jones, and kicker Harrison Butker. Regardless of how this season ends, that core defined one of the most successful eras in modern NFL history.

Now, though, the focus shifts from legacy to survival. According to Next Gen Stats, Kansas City entered Week 15 with roughly a 15% chance of making the postseason. It’s a long shot — but not impossible — and Chiefs fans know that better than anyone.

Week 15 Playoff Scenarios and Who Kansas City Fans Should Root For

First things first: Kansas City must win out. At 6-7, victories over the Los Angeles Chargers, Tennessee Titans, Denver Broncos, and Las Vegas Raiders would put the Chiefs at 10-7. Two of those games — against the Chargers and Broncos — take place at Arrowhead Stadium, where Kansas City has gone 5-2 this season.

Winning out alone won’t guarantee a playoff spot, so help is required. Chiefs fans should start by rooting against the Chargers every week. Los Angeles finishes the season against Kansas City, Dallas, Houston, and Denver. If the Chargers finish 10-7 or worse and lose to both the Chiefs and Broncos, Kansas City would have a strong case in division and common-opponent tiebreakers.

Other games to watch closely in Week 15 include:

• Cincinnati over Baltimore: A Bengals win would drop the Ravens to 6-8. Kansas City already owns the head-to-head tiebreaker from its Sept. 28 win at Arrowhead, giving the Chiefs an edge in the wild-card race.

• Jacksonville over the Jets: The Chiefs want the Jaguars to secure the AFC South. Kansas City lost to Jacksonville earlier this season and would lose that tiebreaker if records are equal.

• Buffalo over New England: Kansas City lost its head-to-head matchup with the Bills. A Buffalo division title would push New England deeper into the wild-card mix, where the Chiefs would rather compete.

• Denver over Green Bay: While it may feel strange, Chiefs fans should root for Denver to win the AFC West. That scenario sets up a cleaner tiebreaker battle with the Chargers instead of the Broncos.

• Seattle over Indianapolis: The Colts remain a major obstacle at 8-5. Kansas City needs Indianapolis to lose ground so the Chiefs’ earlier head-to-head win can matter.

Entering Week 15, no team has clinched a playoff spot — only the third time since realignment in 2002 that’s happened. Chaos remains on the table, and if any franchise knows how to thrive in it, it’s Kansas City.
