Chris Eubank Jr taken to hospital with ‘broken jaw’ after Conor Benn victory

Chris Eubank Jr has been taken to hospital following his victory over Conor Benn, not appearing at a post-fight press conference at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Eubank Jr sealed a thrilling points victory over his rival in north London on Saturday night with his father Chris Eubank Snr watching on from ringside.

Neither man was knocked down in the brutal contest where the two stood and traded throughout the 12 rounds.

Eubank Jr suffered a cut above his right eye after a clash of heads in the ninth round on his way to sealing a an unanimous decision win.

The middleweight was scheduled to speak to reporters at a press conference once the dust had settled but was instead taken to hospital as a precautionary measure, leaving the stadium in an ambulance.

Benn was present at the post-fight press conference, suggesting his rival had suffered a broken jaw.

‘I wish him well,’ Benn said when asked if there was now respect between the two fighters.

‘I know he’s gone to the hospital, I have heard he’s got a broken jaw do I wish him a speedy recovery.’

Eubank Jr addressed the crowd immediately after his win, paying tribute to Benn for ‘bringing the best’ out of him.

He and Benn have shared a vicious rivalry over the last three years with their first meeting in October 2022 sensationally called off at the last minute after a failed drug tests.

The resentment remained and after the fight was revived at the start of the year, Eubank Jr cracked an egg on his rival’s head in a chaotic press conference, sparking an on-stage brawl.

Despite the genuine animosity between the two, Benn and Eubank Jr earned each other’s respect on Saturday night.

Speaking after the victory, Eubank Jr admitted he did ‘not train for a fight like that’ having underestimated his opponent.

‘I knew I was capable of that. I just needed someone to bring it out of me,’ Eubank Jr told Sky Sports.

‘And I’m not gonna lie I didn’t think he would be the guy to do that. Our fathers did what they did and it brings out a different soul and spirit in you. That’s what we both showed tonight.’

He added: ‘Everything surprised me. I didn’t know he had what he had in him. I really didn’t.

‘I thought I would break him early. I underestimated him. I didn’t train for a fight like that. I didn’t know he had that in him, he’s never had that in him. he has never shown that but he has never had to show that.’
