Chris Olave Sends Message to JSN & Seahawks After Rashid Shaheed Trade

The Saints were one of the most active teams ahead of the NFL trade deadline, and they kicked things off Tuesday by dealing wide receiver Rashid Shaheed to the Seahawks for 2026 fourth- and fifth-round picks.

After the Shaheed trade was announced, Seattle star receiver Jaxson Smith-Njigba reacted on X (the social media site formerly known as Twitter) with an eye emoji. This garnered a reaction from Shaheed’s former New Orleans teammate Chris Olave, who wrote, “You got a great one bro,” in response to Smith Njigba’s post.

The Saints — 1-8 with a point differential of -105 — now have seven picks in next year’s draft to help with their rebuild.

Former UDFA Has Become Star Receiver

A former undrafted free agent out of Weber State, Shaheed has become one of the NFL’s best deep threats. In parts of four seasons with New Orleans, Shaheed had 138 catches for 2,055 yards and 12 touchdowns to go with two punt returns for touchdowns. In 2023, he was named All-Pro as a returner.

This season, the 27-year-old Shaheed already has 499 yards and two touchdowns, and his 44 receptions are two shy of his career high. Shaheed is also averaging 12.9 yards on 10 punt returns.

Now in the final year of his $5.2 million deal, Shaheed gives the Seahawks an explosive target downfield to help them chase a Super Bowl.

Shaheed Gives Seahawks Proven Downfield Threat

Because of his ability to stretch the field, Shaheed is a natural fit for the first-place Seahawks (6-2), who boast a top-10 offense and one of the NFL’s most efficient passing attacks. Smith-Njigba — Olave’s teammate at Ohio State — has already shared his feelings, and others will surely chime in over the coming days and weeks.

Olave himself had been linked to trade rumors, but the Saints clearly intend to build around the former first-rounder despite his lengthy history of concussions.

Smith-Njigba leads the NFL with 948 yards receiving on 58 catches. With No. 2 receiver Cooper Kupp nursing a hamstring injury, Shaheed should be an immediate help in Seattle.
