Colts First Rounder Named Top 5 OROY Candidate

The Indianapolis Colts hope to see more from their tight end players this upcoming season, including with the addition of their 14th overall pick.

Indy selected tight end Tyler Warren in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft out of Penn State.

Matt Holder from Bleacher Report revealed his top 5 (and honorable mentions) to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award and listed the newest Colt.

“The Indianapolis Colts haven’t had a tight end finish the regular season with more than 400 receiving yards since Jack Doyle had 448 in 2019. Doyle retired three years ago, and the Colts have been starved for production from the position since then… Hence, Tyler Warren became their first-round pick in April,” Holder wrote. “That also means the Penn State product should have no trouble becoming Indianapolis’ top TE this year, helping his case to put up some impressive numbers in the fall.”

Warren put up over 1,200 receiving yards and 8 receiving touchdowns in his last collegiate season, giving the Colts that tight end threat they have been looking for.

But with a quarterback battle currently brewing in Indianapolis, it could prevent the tight end from having a successful rookie season.

Tyler Warren Forming Chemistry With Both QBs

The Colts are still figuring out who they want to be behind the center when the regular season begins and could benefit Tyler Warren.

Both Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones are taking reps with the first team alongside the tight end.

“It doesn’t really make a difference (to me),” Warren said, via The Sporting News. “They’re both really good quarterbacks, so it’s easy to have chemistry with both of them.”

Warren won’t have to worry about only having experience with one QB and having miscommunications with the other on game days.

“But Daniel Jones being the early favorite to become the Colts’ starting quarterback this season helps Warren’s case to be productive enough to get OROY consideration… With the New York Giants, Jones leaned heavily on tight end Evan Engram, who had 1,529 yards, eight touchdowns and a Pro Bowl appearance in 39 games during the three campaigns they played together,” Holder wrote for B/R.

“So, it’s not out of the question for Jones and Warren to form an immediate connection and the rookie… to become the Colts’ leading receiver in year one.”

Shane Steichen On His Rookie Tight End

Entering his first training camp as a professional, Tyler Warren has been impressing his head coach.

Warren has been getting targeted by Richardson and Jones early in camp while getting open, making difficult catches, according to Colts website writer JJ Stankevitz.

“It’s been solid. Really solid,” Steichen said of Warren’s first training camp, via Colts Wire. “I said this when we drafted him too, I think he’s just got a great feel for the game. A really good feel, great hands, understands football.

“I think he’s going to make a good impact for us this year. But we’re working day by day to get better there, with him and everybody. It’s been good though.”

If things keep up for the former Nittany Lion during the regular season, he could win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. However, it also depends on how either quarterback performs throughout the season.
