Colts Get Good News on QB Daniel Jones Before Crucial Texans Game

The Indianapolis Colts have been one of the biggest surprises in the NFL this season, thanks in large part to the strong play of Daniel Jones under center at quarterback. From seemingly out of nowhere, Jones has helped turn the Colts’ offense into one of the most efficient units the league has ever seen, and it appears as if Indianapolis is a real threat to go on a deep playoff run this year.

Everything was thrown up in the air earlier this week, though, when it was revealed that Jones is dealing with a fracture in his fibula. Despite the fact that the injury seems rather severe, the Colts have indicated that Jones will play through it. Sure enough, head coach Shane Steichen provided a positive update on Jones’ status ahead of Week 13.

Daniel Jones Good to Go for Colts in Week 13

Over the offseason, Jones was signed to a one-year, $14 million contract, with the idea being that he would back up Anthony Richardson at the quarterback position. Instead, Jones won the job in training camp, and he has promptly turned himself into one of the best players at the most important position in all of football in 2025.

In 11 games, Jones has thrown for 2,840 yards and 17 touchdowns, while also rushing for 159 yards and another five scores on the ground. Considering how poorly the 2024 campaign went for Jones (he got benched and then released by the New York Giants), it’s safe to say that nobody could have envisioned this star turn for him.

About the only thing that could slow down Jones and the Colts was an injury, and sure enough, reports indicate that the star passer is dealing with a fracture in his fibula. While it seems like this is a serious injury, Indy has shot that notion down, and after practicing fully on Friday, Jones has been cleared to play in Week 13.

“Colts coach Shane Steichen told reporters that QB Daniel Jones (fibula) was a full participant in practice again today and is good to go Sunday vs. Houston,” Tom Pelissero of NFL Network shared in a post on X.

Daniel Jones, Colts Looking to Get Back on Track After Week 12 Loss

For much of the season, it has appeared that the Colts are running away with the AFC South division. The Jacksonville Jaguars, who are 7-4, and the Houston Texans, who are 6-5, have suddenly added some intrigue to the race, though. With Indy losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 12, that opened the door for both of these teams to make some noise over the next few weeks.

Add in an injury for Jones, and there’s real reason to be concerned about Indianapolis heading into Week 13. A matchup against a Texans team that is getting healthy looms as well, and after they beat up Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in Week 12, they will look to do the same thing to the Colts. Kickoff for what has suddenly become a very important divisional matchup between these two teams is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon.
