Commanders Called Out For ‘Undisciplined, Putrid’ Play in Loss to Lions

There is probably no salvaging the season for the Washington Commanders after their fifth consecutive loss dropped them to 3-7 overall — an embarrassing, 44-22 loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 10 in a rematch of Washington’s shocking upset of the Lions in last season’s NFC Divisional Round.

The Lions were trying to prove a point against the Commanders. The Commanders seemed determined to help them make that point with every conceivable mistake you could make wrapped up in 60 minutes of ugly, ugly football.

There were some moments that were even downright embarrassing. Like at the end of the first quarter when, in one sequence, $90 million veteran defensive tackle Daron Payne was ejected for punching Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown moments before $45 million defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw was flagged for pushing a referee.

All of that ultimately goes back to head coach Dan Quinn.

From Bleacher Report: “The Commanders’ locker room leaders need to hold Payne, Kinlaw and anyone who allows their frustrations to boil over accountable for their actions, or else this season could lead to an offseason roster sweep of several veterans. Quinn fielded an undisciplined squad. He’s also a defensive-minded head coach who watched his team give up points on every drive except for Detroit’s final possession, which ended in victory formation. “

Payne, Kinlaw Both Staring Down Hefty Fines

Both Payne and Kinlaw will face hefty fines when the NFL’s GameDay Accountability team takes a look at the incidents this week.

It kind of underlined how the season has gone off the rails for the Commanders and, in true form, the internet took notice of what may have been the nail in the coffin for the team.

The Commanders entered the season as Super Bowl contenders after advancing to the NFC Championship Game last season — their best season since 1991.

“As a leader of Washington’s defense, Daron Payne should know better than to throw a punch on the field,” former Commanders quarterback Robert Griffin III wrote on his official X account. “He should be suspended. There is no place for this in sports.”

“Amon-Ra St. Brown pointing at Donald Trump and doing his dance after a TD and then getting punched by a Commanders player moments later is objectively hilarious,” NFL Memes wrote on its official X account.

“Four straight 21+ point losses for the Commanders,” NFL reporter Josh Taylor wrote on his official X account. “I don’t care about injuries or any of that as an excuse. This team has no juice at all. Just getting ran over week after week and nothing real changes, and players are getting ejected. Drastically different team than last year.”

Vegas Oddsmakers Turn on Commanders in Week 11

Las Vegas oddsmakers fully turned on the Commanders in Week 11 as they travel to face the Miami Dolphins in Madrid, Spain — a game in which the Dolphins are technically the home team.

Just one month ago, this was a game that would have seen the Commanders favored by a touchdown or more. With both teams now 3-7 and the Dolphins coming off a shocking win over the Buffalo Bills, the Dolphins enter the Madrid game as 1.5-point favorites.
