Commanders Get More Bad News on Star WR Terry McLaurin

Things continue to spiral out of control for the Washington Commanders, both on and off the football field.

The most recent blow came on Monday, November 10, when head coach Dan Quinn announced that wide receiver Terry McLaurin is hurt again and will miss the team’s international showcase against the Miami Dolphins next weekend.

“Head coach Dan Quinn said at his Monday press conference that McLaurin will travel with the team to Spain, but has been ruled out of the team’s Week 11 game against the Dolphins,” Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk reported. “McLaurin returned in Week 8 after missing four games with a quad injury, but left after aggravating it and has missed the last two games.”

McLaurin, 30 years old, inked a $97 million contract extension with the team this offseason and entered the year as the clear No. 1 option in the pass game following five consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and a Pro Bowl/second-team All-Pro campaign in 2024.

Dan Quinn to Assume DC Role for Commanders Moving Forward

Quinn’s press conference on Monday was full of newsworthy comments, as the coach also announced a significant change amid his staff.

Following the Commanders’ fifth consecutive loss — and fourth straight defeat by at least 21 points, which hasn’t happened in the NFL in more than 20 years — Quinn announced that he will assume coordinator duties for the defense, replacing DC Joe Whitt Jr. in that role.

“When something’s not working, we shift from the question of why isn’t it working to what do we need to do to get it right,” Quinn said, per John Keim of ESPN. “Joe took the news like the pro he is. We’re all consumed by getting it right. That’s what we intend to do.”

Washington’s defense has allowed nearly 36 points per game to opposing offenses over the current five-game losing streak.

Commanders Face Must-Win Matchup With Dolphins Amid Jayden Daniels’ Injury

The Commanders are 3-7, which is the same record the Dolphins own heading overseas for a game each team needs to win to keep its postseason hopes — however bleak they are now — alive.

Washington won’t have the benefit of quarterback Jayden Daniels under center after he sustained a left elbow dislocation against the Seattle Seahawks two games back. The silver lining is that Daniels won’t undergo surgery and isn’t heading to the injured reserve list (IR), which means he could be back sooner than later.

The Commanders will get a much-needed bye week following the trip to Spain and won’t take the field again until November 30. That might be enough time for both Daniels and McLaurin to get healthy and return to active status for the six-game stretch to the end of the season.

If Washington can defeat the Dolphins next weekend and the injury luck bounces in their favor, the Commanders will still theoretically have an opportunity to get back on track and make a playoff push one year after earning a trip to the NFC Championship Game.
