Cooper Kupp Setting the Tone for Seahawks Success

The 2025 Seattle Seahawks free agency class is proving to be an impactful one. Quarterback Sam Darnold is playing like an MVP candidate to start the year. Veteran outside linebacker DeMarcus Lawrence has bolstered a Seahawks defense that has been among the best in the NFL, and the most accomplished signing by the Seahawks was wide receiver Cooper Kupp.

Kupp made the in-division jump from the Los Angeles Rams to the Seahawks following a heralded Rams career that included Offensive Player of the Year, a Triple Crown receiving season, and Super Bowl MVP.

Following the departures of DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, the Seahawks needed a veteran presence in their receivers’ room, and Kupp has provided just that.

Setting the Tone

Cooper Kupp has gotten off to a modest start to his Seahawks tenure. He has 23 receptions for 261 yards and one touchdown. To be fair to Kupp, however, he plays on the other side of the NFL’s leading receiver, Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

The most significant impact Kupp has had on the Seahawks, though, may be off the field, as he displays his championship-winning habits and mindset for the team to witness.

Seahawks tight end AJ Barner discussed Kupp’s impact in John Boyle’s October 16 article for Seahawks.com.

“The biggest thing is that success leaves clues,AJ Barner said.Cooper is in here at 5 a.m., first car you see in the parking lot. I know he’s up in the film room watching film. He’s been in the league a long time now and has seen a bunch of things, and he’s a really smart player. It’s nice for us young guys to be able to pick his brain and ask questions. The proof is in the pudding with Cooper; he’s a pro.”

Kupp is having a positive impact on the team even when he may not light up the box score in a given game.

“Force Multiplier”

Last Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Cooper Kupp hauled in his first touchdown of the season. A reward for his consistency and habits on and off the field finally paid off in a game.

After the game at his post-game press conference, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald heaped praise on Kupp about what he has brought to the team. Seahawks.com provided the transcript of Macdonald’s praise of Kupp.

“Really happy for Coop. This guy is a force multiplier. I’m having a foggy brain right now, but whether it’s him or Sam, bringing him into the equation, it was really important to bring him here,Macdonald said. He’s one of the biggest reasons why our team is where they’re at right now. For him to have the productivity he’s had behind it, too, is icing on the cake. He’s playing great football for us. Just the run after the catch on that one play was just tremendous.”

Superstar wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba echoed Macdonald’s sentiments back in July when discussing Kupp in Ari Horton’s article for Seahawks.com

“He brings a next level mindset. I’m super excited to be with him in that receiver room,Smith-Njigba said.Another stellar receiver, great receiver, and I’m just blessed to be in the room with him.”

Kupp has elevated the Seahawks in the early part of the season, and they’ll look to continue that momentum when they face the Houston Texans at Lumen Field on Monday Night Football.
