Cowboys Cut Ties With 2023 Draft Pick Ahead of Broncos Game

The Dallas Cowboys have released 2023 seventh round draft pick Jalen Brooks ahead of their week eight matchup with the Denver Broncos. Brooks appeared in just one game this season against the New York Jets when he injured his knee. This injury led to his ultimate release from the Cowboys as they reached an injury settlement with the 25-year-old.

Brooks appeared in 22 games through his two and a half seasons in Dallas, registering just 18 receptions for 241 yards and one touchdown. In his lone game this season he was held without a catch.

With Brooks’ release, the Cowboys now have just three remaining players on their roster from their 2023 draft class (Luke Schoonmaker, DeMarvion Overshown and Mazi Smith).

Brooks will now hit the free agency market to try to find another opportunity in the NFL.

Cowboys WR Room Fully Healthy For Week Eight

Brooks’ release comes as Dallas finally finds it’s wide receiver room back at full health after a number of weeks dealing with injuries to CeeDee Lamb and KaVontae Turpin.

George Pickens did a phenomenal job elevating his game in Lamb’s absence, as he’s already hauled in 36 receptions for 607 yards and six touchdowns through seven weeks. Now that Lamb is back in the lineup, there is an argument to be made that the Cowboys have the best 1-2 punch at wide receiver in the NFL.

Lamb played his first game in nearly a month last week when Dallas defeated the Washington Commanders 44-22. He pulled in five catches for 110 yards and a touchdown in his return, not missing a beat even with a month of inactivity.

Turpin’s renewed health gives Dak Prescott a great safety blanket outside of Pickens and Lamb.

Jake Ferguson has also played a massive role in the Dallas offense during Lamb and Turpin’s respective absences. The tight end has pulled in 51 passes, good for fourth most in the NFL, only trailing Ja’Marr Chase, Puka Nacua and Christian McCaffrey.

Dallas Starting to Hit It’s Stride After Rocky Start

After starting their season 1-2, the Cowboys have gone 2-1-1 in their last four games, with the only loss coming to a red hot Carolina Panthers team in week six. In this four game stretch, the Cowboys offense is averaging an astounding 37 points per game.

Now looking to get above .500 for the first time this season, the Cowboys have a staunch opponent waiting in the Denver Broncos in week eight.

The key to Sunday’s game will be the Cowboys offense, which is the second highest scoring unit in the NFL. On the other side, the Broncos have allowed the fourth fewest points per game in the league. With a revamped WR room, Dallas should have a punchers chance in this game, but Denver’s defense has proved in multiple games this year that it has one of, if not the best defense in the NFL.

Dallas enters Sunday’s road game as 3.5 point underdogs as they hit the road in Denver.
