The Dallas Cowboys have some big goals for the 2025 campaign. Now that they are once again healthy after an injury-plagued 2024 season, they are hoping to be able to compete with the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders in the NFC East. Training camp hasn’t even begun, though, and it sounds like the injury concerns are already beginning to pop up yet again for this team.
Dallas’ 2024 season largely unraveled after quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a season-ending hamstring injury in Week 9. The good news is that he’s healthy, and he has a shiny new target, George Pickens, who will be helping him out on offense. The bad news is that one member of the Cowboys rookie draft class already appears to have suffered a worrisome injury setback.
Cowboys Rookie Shavon Revel Suffers Injury Setback
While getting Prescott some more help on offense was a major goal this offseason, the front office also wanted to add to their defense. One player they brought in was rookie Shavon Revel, a cornerback selected in the third-round of the 2025 NFL Draft. However, it sounds like his return from a knee injury has hit a speed bump.
Revel initially broke out in 2023 while with the East Carolina Pirates, racking up 54 tackles, 13 passes batted, an interception, and a sack. He seemed set for a huge 2024 campaign, but he ended up suffering a torn ACL, cutting his season short after just three games. Ever since then, he’s been working his way back to full health.
The Cowboys took a bit of a flier on Revel in the third round given his injury status, but they have the ability to do so since Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland are manning the boundary cornerback spots for the time being. In his quest to get back on the field, Revel has reportedly suffered a setback, which is certainly not the sort of news the team was hoping to get ahead of training camp.
“He had a little bit of a setback with his knee, but I think he’ll be OK,” Albert Breer said on “MMQB.”

Breer’s update on Revel is certainly murky, but it seems like he avoided any sort of serious setback. It’s also June, so Revel still has a lot of time to get himself healthy so that he can return to the field. With Diggs, Bland, and Israel Mukuamu leading the way at cornerback, there also isn’t a pressing need for Revel to be on the field, although the Cowboys would ideally like to have all their guys on the field as much as possible.
When he’s healthy, Revel has the potential to become one of the top cornerbacks in the league. Of course, the injury issues are a concern, and Dallas is already finding that out the hard way. Given the severity of a torn ACL, the Cowboys are going to allow Revel to take his time when it comes to recovering from this injury, but seeing that he’s already suffered a setback, even if it isn’t serious, will be a bit of a concern for the team and their fans.
