Ahead of their Sunday showdown with the Denver Broncos, the 3-3-1 Dallas Cowboys offered no new updates Tuesday on the availability of two-time All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs. As of Monday, Diggs remained in concussion protocol after what owner Jerry Jones described as a “fluke situation” that resulted in a mysterious head injury.
The concussion reportedly resulted from an incident of some kind that occurred at Diggs $4.4 million, six-bedroom, eight-bath mansion in Frisco, Texas, about 40 miles north of Arlington where the Cowboys AT&T Stadium is located.
The exact nature of what happened remains shrouded in mystery. The only clue as to what might have happened, or more precisely what did not happen, came from longtime NFL insider Josina Anderson, who wrote on Friday that Diggs’ head trauma was not the result of “a dispute.”
Jones Offers Blunt Opinion on Diggs Situation
On Tuesday, however, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said that he knew what happened to Diggs, and that he was “comfortable” with the account he was given â though he did not make it clear whether it was Diggs himself who conveyed the details, or some other person who knew what caused the 2020 second-round draft pick’s concussion.
But in his interview with KRLD-FM radio, which goes by the brand name 105.3 The Fan, Jones seemed to be in no mood to keep talking, or even thinking, about Diggs’ concussion issues.
“Thereâs no reason to dwell on it anymore,â Jones said, bluntly, as quoted by Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News.
Despite his pledge not to “dwell” on Diggs publicly unexplained injury, Jones went on to say, in so many words, that the Cowboys did not need the 27-year-old cornerback to win anymore.
“What we did see is we played pretty well out there,â Jones said in the interview, referring to the Cowboys Week Seven 44-22 demolition of the Washington Commanders. âSo I donât know the status of Diggs as we move forward, but I feel better about being able to play if we donât have him out there.â
Jones Losing Trust in Diggs
The Tuesday statement was Jones’ second comment in two days regarding the Diggs concussion. On Monday, Jones appeared to say that Diggs did, in fact, explain the circumstances of the head injury to him â but Jones remained skeptical.
âHe said what happened, and Iâm not saying that didnât happen,â Jones said, as quoted by CBS Sports. âBut a lot of times, youâre not the best viewer of what happened to you.â
In his Tuesday interview, according to the Dallas Morning News, Jones also implied that he had lost “trust” in the Cowboys star cornerback.
âWeâre using that word trust a lot and maybe itâs an appropriate word,â the 83-yar-old Cowboys owner said. âBut at the end of the day, itâs a pretty physical situation. You have to physically be able to perform. Thatâs important. Diggs has not been there to really get the job done.”
When the Cowboys reconvene for their first full practice of the week on Wednesday, the team will essentially be forced to provide an update on Diggs’ status, and whether or not he will be healthy to play against the Broncos on Sunday.
