Cowboys QB Dak Prescott Breaks Silence on Injury After MNF Loss

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott took a beating against the Arizona Cardinals and left the 27-17 loss with a noticeable limp.

Prescott suffered an ankle injury late in the first half but returned after the break to finish the game. He battled through the pain, posting a season-high 34 rushing yards — most of which came in the fourth quarter as the Cowboys tried to rally back.

After the game, Prescott confirmed he’s dealing with the ankle injury but isn’t concerned about it, especially with the Cowboys heading into a bye week.

“Going into a bye week, I’ll be more than great,” Prescott said.

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer took issue with how many times Prescott was hit against the Cardinals.

“We were not very good at protecting Dak. He took too many hits today. That cannot happen. It’s something we have to look at,” Schottenheimer said. “He got banged around. He said he was OK, but he took a lot of shots. We can’t let that happen. No one plays too good when they’re taking too many hits. We have to do a better job keeping him upright.”

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott Disappointed After Loss to Cardinals

After looking like a potential MVP candidate through seven weeks, Prescott has struggled over the last two games. Over that span, he’s passed for 438 yards, just one touchdown, and three interceptions.

The Cowboys dropped to 3-5-1 with the loss to the Cardinals, and Dallas needs to turn things around in a hurry if it hopes to salvage their season.

“Disappointing,” Prescott said after Monday’s loss. “It’s very frustrating — knowing that you’re better than that, and going out there, not putting on a performance that’s close to your standard, or even the expectations, or what you thought you could do and expected to do.”

The Cowboys will face the Las Vegas Raiders when they emerge from their bye week, but they have a tough stretch after that, including games against the Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, and Detroit Lions.

“Every game is a must-win going forward,” Prescott said. “I know you say that, and you feel that in the NFL, and you should feel that, but when you put yourself in a position or behind like we have, it’s even more so that case. We’re fortunate right now that, in the league, there’s a lot of teams with multiple losses. … You can catch a hot streak and be right there in the mix.”

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott Open to Trades

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has hinted that a trade is in the works ahead of Tuesday’s deadline. Prescott said he’s open to the team making moves, noting that past midseason additions — like the 2018 trade for Amari Cooper — made a significant impact.

“Yeah, I mean, especially if it’s a big value guy, a guy that’s gonna come in and make a difference and have an immediate impact,” Prescott said. “You can do so much good being a part of one of those [trades]. I forget how many years ago it was, but it was Amari Cooper, right? Signing him during the bye week, or going into the bye weekend, we were able to get something going a few weeks later.

“I knew we lost that first week we had him on Monday night, but we ended up getting it back rolling and put a streak together, and that’s what this league is about. It’s about creating streaks — win streaks, getting hot, and putting yourself in a better position than you were, or you are at this moment.”

If the Cowboys do make a move, it will likely be aimed at bolstering their struggling defense. Dallas currently ranks 31st in the league in points (30.8 per game) and total yards surrendered (397.4) per game.
