The Dallas Cowboys were dealt a major blow on Friday afternoon when Micah Parsons revealed that he had requested a trade from the team amid his ongoing contract dispute. Now, the Cowboys find themselves stuck between a rock and a hard place, as they quickly need to figure out whether they want to give Parsons the new deal he’s looking for or if they need to cut bait and honor his trade request.
Considering Parsons’ standing as one of the best players in the league, that has only added to the intrigue surrounding the situation. This isn’t the first time Dallas has found itself in this spot, but it may be the most important contract standoff of Jerry Jones’ time in charge of the team. And according to a recent report, the team already knows how they are going to respond to Parsons.
Cowboys Aren’t Interested in Trading Micah Parsons
All offseason long, Parsons has made it clear he wants a new contract from the Cowboys. Considering how he’s entering the fifth and final year of his rookie deal, that didn’t come as much of a surprise. However, for a point in time early in the offseason, it seemed like these contract talks were headed in the right direction, and that the two sides would agree to something before training camp.
Those positive talks ended up stalling, though, and while Parsons reported for training camp, he conducted a hold-in, refusing to practice until he had a new contract in place. Reports indicated that things were at a standstill to begin training camp, and that there were really no positive talks taking place, which led to Parsons’ trade request.
While the superstar linebacker wants to land with a new squad, that doesn’t mean that Dallas is going to automatically look to ship him to a new team. Unsurprisingly, the initial response from the team appears to be that they don’t want to trade Parsons, as reports indicate that they aren’t entertaining his request currently.
“The Dallas Cowboys have no intention of trading Micah Parsons, per sources,” Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported. “Still, teams around the league are planning to reach out to check on his availability today.”
What Should the Cowboys do with Micah Parsons?

Parsons is one of the best defenders in the NFL, as he’s racked up four Pro Bowl selections and a pair of spots on the All-Pro First Team since entering the league back in 2021. He’s going to command a big price on his new deal, but he’s likely going to be worth whatever he’s paid. However, after handing out huge deals to CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott, it’s fair to wonder whether or not Jones wants to pay Parsons and keep him in town.
Given that they don’t seem interested in trading him, though, it leaves both sides in a strange spot. The Cowboys want Parsons around, but they haven’t really made a push to sign him as of late. Rather than dragging out the situation, they should work on giving him the sort of deal he wants. That’s not how Jones likes to operate, though, and it’s safe to say we haven’t heard the last about Parsons as this contract dilemma continues to unfold.
