Cowboys Speedy Playmaker’s Season Ends Abruptly While Playing 0 Games in Dallas

The injuries continue for the Dallas Cowboys in the early days of training camp. Dallas is reuniting with a familiar face, but it is a series of injuries that opened up the roster spot.

The Cowboys signed La’el Collins after a positive workout on August 1, 2025 as Dallas deals with five separate injuries on the offensive line. The franchise announced the signing of Collins while wide receiver Parris Campbell was placed on the Injured Reserve list.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Campbell was placed on season-ending injured reserve. The Cowboys signed Campbell to a one-year contract back in March, but the wideout was likely fighting for a roster spot prior to the injury news.

It looks like Campbell will not play for the Cowboys despite signing with the franchise this offseason, unless the playmaker re-signs with Dallas in 2026.

Let’s dive into the Cowboys’ latest roster moves as well as Campbell’s injury.

The Cowboys Also Cut Ties With Tackle Matt Waletzko Amid Injury Concerns

Dallas announced several additional roster moves aside from Collins and Campbell. The Cowboys signed tackle Geron Christian and waived Matt Waletzko with an injury designation in additional roster moves.

Unfortunately, Campbell’s career has been largely defined by injuries since being selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft. Campbell played five games for the Philadelphia Eagles during the team’s Super Bowl run in 2024.

The wideout’s best season came in 2022 with Campbell posting 63 receptions for 623 yards and three touchdowns while playing in all 17 games. It marked the only time in Campbell’s six NFL seasons that the playmaker played in every game. Campbell ran a blazing 4.31-second time in the 40-yard dash during the 2019 NFL combine.

Jerry Jones on Micah Parsons’ Trade Request: ‘Life Has to Go On’

The Cowboys’ injury woes have been overshadowed by Micah Parsons’ trade request. Owner Jerry Jones responded to Parsons’ recent push for a trade amid tense contract negotiations.

“I wouldn’t be standing here with you if I didn’t think we potentially had a great future with Micah,” Jones told reporters on August 2, per The Athletic’s Jon Machota. “We’re in good shape. This is negotiation.

“But make no mistake about it, life has to go on if something happens to me or anybody else. Life does go on.”

Some NFL Teams Believe ‘Cooler Heads With Prevail’ Amid Micah Parsons’ Trade Request to Cowboys

It remains to be seen how Parsons’ situation will play out. Dallas is not required to acquiesce to Parsons’ trade push, but the franchise is also risking permanently fracturing their relationship with the star. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Todd Archer provided an overview of how other teams are viewing the Cowboys’ public feud with Parsons.

“People I’ve talked to leave open the possibility that cooler heads will prevail later into August,” Fowler and Archer wrote in an August 1, story titled, “Micah Parsons’ trade request and his future with the Cowboys.” “But they note that Dallas is also playing with fire regarding a player and agent (David Mulugheta) who don’t mind the role of villain.

“… A separate NFC exec said he does not believe the Cowboys will trade Parsons. Although the trade return would likely include a first-round pick — possibly two No. 1s — such a deal would be difficult for teams to pull off when considering the contract money they would have to commit to the player in addition to the lost draft capital.”
