Dak Prescott About to Make Major Cowboys History vs. Eagles

Don’t look now but the Cowboys are about to have a major shake-up at the top of the team record book. That’s because, as Week 12 approaches, quarterback Dak Prescott has amassed a total of 34,024 yards in his career. That’s No. 2 all-time in the team record book.

No. 1 is Tony Romo. But Romo is at 34,183–a mere 159 yards ahead of Prescott. It’s not a sure thing, of course, but Prescott is in a very good position to overtake Romo as the most prolific passer in team history in Week 12 against the Eagles.

Yes, the Eagles have been playing excellent defense in recent weeks–they held Detroit to 124 yards passing in Week 11–but Prescott has averaged 258.7 yards per game this season, making it all but s sure thing that Prescott will make the historic leap on Sunday afternoon at home against a team he’s had success playing in the past.

Prescott is 9-5 in his career against the Eagles, with 3,590 total yards. That’s No. 2 on his all-time opponents list, behind only the Giants.

Cowboys’ Troy Aikman Has Big Praise for Dak Prescott

It’s been something of a roller-coaster season for the Cowboys on the field, of course, as the team sits with a 4-5-1 record following Monday night’s drubbing of the Raiders on the road. The team’s defense has been wildly inconsistent, but Prescott’s steady hand with the offense has been a constant.

Former Cowboys great Troy Aikman–No. 3 on the team’s all-time passing list and the only other quarterback with 30,000 yards for Dallas–has had high praise for Prescott all year.

“I have been impressed with Dak, certainly Week 1 and what he was able to do and then this last game. He’s always had good energy. He’s always had good body language and all that on the field,” Aikman said on 96.7 The Ticket in Dallas last month.

“But in addition to just how well he’s played, I just sense that there’s a confidence about him in the way in which he’s playing that I don’t want to say I haven’t seen it before, but I just feel like he’s really dialed in and feeling good about where this offense is going, the way that it’s playing, and the way he’s playing.”

Dak Prescott Showing Leadership

Off the field, it has been a rocky year at The Star, with two blockbuster Cowboys trades (one sending Micah Parsons out, another bringing Quinnen Williams in), and the Marshawn Kneeland tragedy. But Prescott has shown his leadership throughout.

It was Prescott who rallied the offense and the team in general to play in honor of Kneeland on Monday, and his goal is to get the Cowboys to bring that same approach each week.

“I have no better peace than being on the field, I know this for a lot of guys out here,” Prescott said. “You have to think about a lot, you have to focus in. It was a blessing to be out here. This is where healing happens for me. We love Marshawn, we’ll continue to shine light for him. We’re blessed to carry his life for him.”
