David Raya is set to miss Arsenal’s Carabao Cup tie against Bolton which is likely to result in a debut for 16-year-old rookie Jack Porter.

The Spain international has been in magnificent form this season, contributing to wins against Wolves, Aston Villa and Tottenham with a series of vital saves.

Raya also pulled off a miraculous double stop to preserve a point against Atalanta in the Champions League last week, before playing another starring role in Sunday’s incident packed 2-2 draw at Manchester City.

Former Brentford keeper Raya was spotted hobbling through the mixed zone at the Etihad Stadium shortly after the final whistle and was seen to be wearing a bandage over his right knee.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal will take no risks with their No.1 tonight but he is likely to be contention for Saturday’s home game against Leicester City.

With experienced No.2 Neto cup-tied and summer signing from Ajax Tommy Setford injured, Arsenal have been forced into an almost unprecedented position.

Porter only turned 16 two months ago and shortly after signed a scholarship contract with Arsenal.

Upon doing so, he posted a picture of himself on Instagram with club hero and academy manager Per Mertesacker, accompanied by the caption: ‘Dream come true, delighted to sign for this amazing football club with such great history, would like to thank everyone who’s supported me throughout the years. Hard work carries on.’

To date, Porter, who wears the No.92 shirt, has made six appearances for Arsenal U18s, keeping one clean sheet and conceding 12 goals.

News that Raya’s injury is nothing serious, meanwhile, will represent a huge boost for Arteta who has been forced to cope without key personnel at various times already this season.

Declan Rice missed the north London derby thought suspension, while summer signing Mikel Merino is yet to make his debut after he suffered a shoulder injury during his first training session with his new club.

Oleksandr Zinchenko, meanwhile, is set to miss at least another two weeks with a calf injury but there was more positive news on Martin Odegaard on Tuesday.

The club captain damaged ankle ligaments during Norway’s recent match against Austria and was looking at a prolonged spell on the sidelines.

Speaking at a press conference, however, Arteta indicated he was hoping for a pleasant surprise and a potential early return for his side’s main source of creative inspiration.

He said: ‘We might get a surprise but I think it’s unlikely.’
