Deion Sanders Blasts Browns After Joe Flacco Trade

Deion Sanders made his feelings very clear on the Cleveland Browns following a trade that sent Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Deion Sanders — head coach at Colorado and father of Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders — was asked about the Browns’ move during his media availability in Boulder. Coach Prime didn’t mince words, offering candid remarks that suggested he’s far from pleased with how his son has been handled in Cleveland.

“I don’t care,” Sanders said. I don’t give a darn about the Browns at all. I care about the Colorado Buffaloes. I do love me some Shedeur Sanders though, believe that. I care about him and the rest of that mess, I don’t. I’m a coach trying to win games just like they’re trying to win games. I could care less who they traded.”

Deion Sanders’ sharp statement sparked speculation that he’s not happy with the Browns.

If you’re reading through that, it means that Deion’s very done with the Browns,” Jonathan Peterlin said on 92.3 The Fan in Cleveland. “If you had no intention of playing Shedeur this year, you shouldn’t have drafted the kid.”

Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Shut Down Ravens in Draft

Shedeur Sanders slid further than expected in the NFL Draft, landing in the fifth round — a surprise given early first-round projections. But even with the later selection, his camp made one thing clear: early playing time was the priority. The Sanders family rebuffed interest from the Baltimore Ravens, who were prepared to take the Colorado quarterback before Cleveland. They didn’t want Shedeur buried behind two-time MVP Lamar Jackson.

“How in the world can somebody fault [Shedeur] for saying or thinking, ‘Why in the world would I go back up Lamar for 10 more years,’” Deion Sanders said on the “New Heights” podcast recently. “I’ve never sat on the bench and said, ‘Well, I learned a lot today.’”

Shedeur Sanders has remained relatively quiet on his situation. But recently, he said that he could do better than some of the quarterback play he’s seen around the league.

“I know if you see the quarterback play in the league right now, I know I’m capable of doing better than that,” Sanders said in September. “(There’s) obvious a lot of teams would be playing me, but that’s not in God’s plan right now. And some things happen for a reason and I’m a true believer in that. And whatever his plan for me is I believe in it. So I don’t be stressed or feel bad that I’m in the situation I’m in right now. It’s just funny to me and I just enjoy it.”

Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Listed as Backup on Latest Depth Chart

The move should be good news for Shedeur, who got bumped up to the No. 2 spot on the unofficial depth chart following the trade. He’s in line to be the primary backup to fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, but Cleveland has yet to officially announce that decision.

The Browns have Bailey Zappe on the practice squad and there is speculation that he could end up serving as the backup on game day.

Sanders has been inactive for the first five games of the season, serving as the emergency quarterback. He would have only been able to enter the game if both Flacco and Gabriel were injured.

The Browns head to Pittsburgh this week to face the Steelers in an important AFC North matchup.
