Denver Nuggets Lose Starter to Injury Several Weeks

The Denver Nuggets have suffered a disappointing blow to the starting lineup.

While other teams around the league have suffered with injury problems, the Nuggets haven’t been one of them. They have been one of the healthiest teams in the league thus far. They have used that health to vault themselves to second in the Western Conference standings.

While they have enjoyed good health so far, that ended in a game against the Clippers. Christian Braun left that game with an ankle injury. Now, the Nuggets have learned just how long they will be without Braun.

Denver Nuggets Guard Christian Braun Out At Least Six Weeks

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Braun will be re-evaluated in six weeks. He has suffered an ankle sprain. Of course, this doesn’t mean that Braun will be back on the floor in six weeks. This means the Nuggets will take a look at his injury again at that time.

So far this season, Denver has the second-best net rating in the league. They are elite on both sides of the court. Braun has by far the best net rating of his career, sitting at 17.6. His offensive numbers have taken a dip from last season, however.

Without Braun, the Nuggets will have to insert a new starter. Bruce Brown might get a look at talking over his spot, as will Peyton Watson. Denver is a good enough team that they should be able to weather these next six weeks without Braun in the lineup.

The Nuggets Continue to Be Elite With Nikola Jokic Playing

As long as the Nuggets have Nikola Jokic in the lineup, they should be just fine. The three-time MVP is looking to add another one to his trophy mantle this season. He leads the league in rebounding, assists, and is sixth in scoring.

Jokic is able to cover up a lot of holes when he’s out on the floor. While Braun does a lot of things for the Nuggets on the defensive end of the floor, Denver should still be fine. Making up for that defensive skill is going to be paramount to how the Nuggets weather the next few weeks.

In the offseason, Braun agreed to a five-year, $125 million extension with the franchise. Braun has been very durable for the Nuggets so far in his career, never playing fewer than 76 games in a season. This is the first significant injury that he has had in his career.
