The 2025-26 Los Angeles Clippers season has been a total disaster. There are little to no positives to take away from his things have been going.
The vibes haven’t been great, they don’t have any assets to build on, and their 2026 1st-round pick belongs with the 21-1 Oklahoma City Thunder.
Bradley Beal is out for the season. Brook Lopez is already collecting DNP-CD’s. It seems Chris Paul picked a bad time to announce a retirement tour.
Overnight, it was discovered that the team was actually sending the future Hall-of-Famer home. His time with the Clippers is over. The worst part as well, was that CP3 found out from social media, as did the rest of the world.
The aging Clippers were in trouble regardless, but now it’s even worse. There are some things that still need to be worked out here.
Let’s look at a few possible landing spots for Paul as he evaluates his next steps.
Chris Paul Landing Spots
It would make sense for any Chris Paul landing spot discussions to start with the Los Angeles Lakers. LeBron James, nearing the end of his own legendary career, has long been close with Paul.
LeBron played with both Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade. To complete the full Banana Boat Crew circle, Paul joins the Lakers and it comes right to fruition. Plus, another veteran would certainly help the team.
At this point for CP3, it isn’t so much about fit, as a championship opportunity. But, in the final year of a 21-year career, getting on-court reps one last time is certainly important.
The Denver Nuggets could be a viable option. The team hasn’t been playing a true point guard outside of Jamal Murray this year after Russell Westbrook wasn’t brought back. He could steady the ship at the position in short stints, and if not, could be another vocal leader in practice.
The biggest decision for Paul, as the Clippers plan to work to help him find a landing spot, is to make sure wherever he goes, it’s exactly what he wants.
A Few More Chris Paul Landing Spots
In truth, any of the other 29 teams in the association would benefit from having Chris Paul around. But the non-contenders have no business slotting into the discussions.
Might a return to the Houston Rockets make some sense? With Fred VanVleet out, the team has been lacking a veteran floor general. Reed Sheppard and Aaron Holiday have been serviceable, but a 21-year veteran joining Kevin Durant and co. could make them a little stronger.
Houston was one win from the NBA Finals before CP3’s injury back in 2017, and his two years over there were special.
The New York Knicks should certainly be in play. They don’t have an established backup point guard behind Jalen Brunson, and Paul could see a few minutes here and there. Tyler Kolek could use another mentor, and it would help set the team up for future success. They are contenders in the East, too.
One other sneaky spot for Paul could be the Toronto Raptors. This one is very unlikely to come to fruition, but it would be great for the Canadian squad. They have surprised a lot of folks with their 15-7 start, and adding a 21-year-vet would be huge.
Ths buzz here is as real as Carmelo Anthony’s time with the Atlanta Hawks, though.
Wherever CP3 lands for his final stop, let’s all just hope he’s treated better than how the Clippers did him.
