Diamondbacks Slugger Breaks Silence on Trade Buzz

With the MLB trade deadline approaching and the Arizona Diamondbacks floating around .500, slugging third baseman Eugenio Suárez has become a popular name in speculation circles. But while insiders project him as a prime trade chip, Suárez made it clear: he doesn’t want to leave the desert.

“I don’t want to leave Arizona,” Suárez told The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal. “Obviously, we know how the business of baseball is. But right now, I feel comfortable.”

That comfort comes with good reason. Since being acquired from Seattle, Suárez has been one of the most productive hitters on the roster—and a fan favorite in the clubhouse. Despite swirling rumors and zero contract extension talks, he’s holding firm on where he wants to finish 2025.

Suárez’s Numbers Back His Value

The 33-year-old is in the middle of one of the most underrated power-hitting seasons in the league. He’s slashing .250/.318/.561 with 27 home runs, 70 RBIs, and a 14.5% barrel rate that ranks among the best of his career. His 90.9 average exit velocity and 50.9% hard-hit rate exceed MLB average by a healthy margin, and his .561 slugging percentage places him firmly in elite territory for third basemen.

Only three other players in baseball have hit more homers than Suárez this season. He’s also just two weeks removed from his 300th career bomb, a milestone that cements his place among the top power bats of his era.

No Contract Talks, No Certainty

Suárez also admitted there have been no talks with the Diamondbacks about a contract extension, which is a glaring omission considering how central he’s been to Arizona’s offense.

“If I could choose one place to go, I would want to stay here,” Suárez said.

But the front office may have other plans. The D-backs are hovering around .500, dealing with injuries across the lineup and the pitching staff. Suárez becomes an attractive piece to move if they slide further down the standings, especially for contenders desperate for pop at the hot corner.

More Than Just a Bat

Beyond the metrics, Suárez brings something intangible to the Diamondbacks that would be hard to replace: leadership and energy. His “good vibes only” approach has earned praise from coaches and teammates alike. Losing him would be more than a hit to the box score—it could impact the clubhouse dynamic.

Suárez has quickly become a culture-setter in Arizona. And while his age (34 next season) complicates extension logistics, his current production makes a compelling case for keeping him around.

Arizona at a Crossroads

General manager Mike Hazen and manager Torey Lovullo both said they wanted to buy by the deadline. However, with the team stuck in the middle of the standings and running out of time, dealing with Suárez could represent a pivot—one that might not sit well with fans or the clubhouse.

Still, the trade buzz won’t quiet down anytime soon. Suárez knows that.

Arizona’s front office has a tough call ahead if this is business. Trading a beloved slugger during a career season might save payroll, but it could cost them the team’s heart.
