Dodgers Could Land Predicted $189 Million Blue Jays Star, Per Insider

It might sound wild, given just how good the Los Angeles Dodgers have been over the past two seasons and looking to win another World Series right now, but this team may even better next year.

With multiple options to pursue, there’s even a chance they could steal a player from the Toronto Blue Jays, the team they’re currently playing in the World Series. That player is none other than Bo Bichette, the Blue Jays star shortstop who is dealing with an injury.

When examining potential spots for Bichette in free agency, Jim Bowden of The Athletic linked him to the Dodgers, also noting that he could land a seven-year, $189 million deal in free agency.

“Bichette was leading the American League in hits before he suffered a left knee sprain on Sept. 6 that ended his regular season. He batted .311/.357/.483 with 44 doubles, 18 home runs, and 94 RBIs, a huge bounce-back season after a career-worst 2024. He’s led the AL in hits twice in the last five years and has a career batting average of .294. He’s a below-average defender at shortstop, however, and several interested teams view him as an option for third base going forward.

“His prime years have just begun and he’s one of the youngest free agents on the market, though he has dealt with several lower body injuries the past couple of years. As long as teams have a clear sense of the health of his knee, Bichette will have plenty of suitors in free agency because he could be considered a fit as a shortstop, a third baseman or a second baseman. Best team fits: Blue Jays, Red Sox, Tigers, Yankees, Phillies, Dodgers, Cubs, Mariners, Mets. Contract prediction: 7-years, $189 million,” he wrote.

Does Pursuing Bo Bichette Make Sense for the Dodgers?

Adding somebody like Bichette for the Los Angeles Dodgers makes sense. It’s a bit strange to think that the Dodgers will go out and spend a lot more money on another player.

However, they’ve also proven that if they believe a player will help them win a World Series, they’ll do everything they can to ensure that player lands on the roster. For someone like Bichette, he could allow Mookie Betts to return to the outfield.

Will Bo Bichette Want to Stay With the Blue Jays?

Bichette staying with the Toronto Blue Jays also wouldn’t be as surprising for apparent reasons. He’s spent his entire career in Toronto and has been very good there, leading the American League in hits twice throughout his young career. He was also on pace to do so again this year, but dealt with an injury late in the campaign.

Bichette was asked what his future looks like in Toronto prior to the first game of the World Series. However, he was somewhat non-committal about it, adding that he wants to stay with the Blue Jays, but understands that he has a lot bigger things to worry about right now than his future with the organization.

“When asked about his future, Bo Bichette says ‘my goal is to stay here for my entire career,’ while adding that right now he doesn’t have time to think about it,” Ben Nicholson-Smith reported.
