The Los Angeles Dodgers were unable to take full control of the 2025 World Series in Game 4, as they suffered a 6-2 defeat against the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night. That sets the stage for a crucial Game 5 contest in what is now a best-of-three series that will determine the champion for the 2025 campaign.
While the Dodgers’ play on the field is easily the biggest storyline surrounding the team currently, there are some notable situations worth following off the field as well. One of them involves team legend Kirk Gibson, who made a major announcement during the World Series that will surely catch the attention of fans everywhere.
Kirk Gibson Issues Announcement During World Series
Gibson enjoyed a 17-year career in the majors, which he primarily spent with the Detroit Tigers. However, he may be best known for his 1988 campaign with the Dodgers. Gibson put together the best season of his career, hitting .290 with 25 home runs, 76 RBIs, and 31 stolen bases. Not only did he win the National League MVP Award, but he also hit a clutch walk-off home run in Game 1 of the World Series that year, which Los Angeles would eventually go on to win.
Gibson would also spend time with the Kansas City Royals and Pittsburgh Pirates before he eventually retired after the 1995 season. After initially dabbling in broadcasting, Gibson transitioned into coaching, where he eventually ended up becoming the Arizona Diamondbacks‘ manager for five seasons, with his best year being in 2011 when he won the National League Manager of the Year Award.
In 2015, Gibson was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, and he has since worked hard at spreading awareness for the disease. As part of his mission, Gibson’s foundation (The Kirk Gibson Foundation) recently announced the grand opening of The Kirk Gibson Center for Parkinson’s Wellness in Farmington Hills, Michigan, which aims to provide a supportive community to folks battling Parkinson’s disease.
“The opening of this Parkinson’s Center is more than just a building, it’s a center of hope and provides a sense of community for everyone in the battle with Parkinson’s,” Gibson said as part of a press release announcing the opening of the center. “This has been part of my mission, and I am honored to be able to open the doors and welcome everyone to our center where they can empower each other in a place filled with comfort and support.”

Gibson has done some great work raising awareness for Parkinson’s disease over the past decade, but his work with this new organization has taken things to another level. The Kirk Gibson Center is a first-of-its-kind facility, and the hope is that it will provide another outlet to help people who are dealing with the disease alongside Gibson.
On the field, the Dodgers are gearing up for perhaps their most important game of the season on Wednesday night. With a win, they will be on the verge of earning their second straight championship. If they lose, though, L.A. will have to go back to the Rogers Centre in Toronto and win two straight games on the road if they intend to come out on top. First pitch for Game 5 is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET, with Blake Snell taking the mound against Trey Yesavage.
