Dodgers Make Key Decision on Max Muncy’s Future After Latest Offseason Move

The Los Angeles Dodgers have made one of their first big offseason decisions and it involves a familiar face and a key part of their dynasty.

According to MLB’s Sonja Chen, the Dodgers picked up the $10 million club option on Max Muncy.

While the team has yet to confirm the move, the decision signals that LA isn’t ready to part ways with one of its longest-tenured and most clutch postseason performers.

“It’s hard to imagine the Dodgers without Muncy’s bat in that lineup,” one league insider told MLB Network.

“He’s been there through every major October moment of this era and that leadership still matters in that clubhouse.”

Despite limited availability the past two seasons due to injuries, Muncy remains one of the most respected and important players on the team.

And with the Dodgers poised for another deep playoff run in 2026, keeping a proven veteran power hitter like Muncy was close to a no-brainer.

Muncy’s Key Role With the Dodgers

At 35, Muncy’s value extends beyond his stat line.

Over his eight seasons with the Dodgers, Muncy is a three-time World Series champion and the team’s all-time postseason home run leader with 16.

Muncy battled injuries for a lot of the 2025 season, but was still able to hit 19 home runs and knock in 67 RBI’s.

Muncy played great after a slow April in 2025, posting a .268/.406/.563 line from April 30 onward.

His 137 wRC+ over that span ranked fourth among Dodgers behind Shohei Ohtani (172), Will Smith (153) and Freddie Freeman (139).

The team’s record reflected his presence, too: 60-40 with Muncy, 33-29 without.

But his most important moment of the season came in the eighth inning of Game 7 of the World Series.

His home run made it a one run game and gave the Dodgers a fighting chance.

It was classic Max Muncy who always seems to come up big in the clutch.

It brought back memories of his 18th-inning walk-off in the 2018 World Series, another moment that defined his Dodgers career.

The Dodgers don’t win this World Series without him.

Dodgers Offseason Outlook

By exercising Muncy’s option early, the Dodgers effectively kick off what’s expected to be another high-profile offseason in Los Angeles.

In addition to bringing back Muncy, the Dodgers also exercised their $3.55 million club option on reliever Alex Vesia ahead of Thursday’s deadline.

The Dodgers are already linked to several top names in free agency, including Bo Bichette, Kyle Tucker, and Alex Bregman, as reported earlier this week.

With Muncy and Vesia back, the Dodgers retain both veteran leadership and financial flexibility heading into a great free agent market.

“The Dodgers are never shy about spending or winning,” MLB analyst Jon Morosi said on MLB Now.

“Locking in Muncy is just step one in a much larger plan to build another championship-caliber roster around Ohtani and Freeman.”

As the Dodgers’ longest-tenured player, Muncy remains a symbol of the team’s sustained success, so it is great to see him back in Dodger Blue for at least one more year.
