The Los Angeles Dodgers are the 2025 World Series Champions. It took seven games, but they stopped the Toronto Blue Jays from earning their first title since 1993. It took everyone pulling their weight to make it happen, especially their starting rotation.
Shohei Ohtani, Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto all pitched in Game 7 to help secure the victory. With the victory, they become the first team to win back-to-back World Series Championships since the New York Yankees in the early 2000s.
Heavy.com has proposed a trade that would help solidify the Dodgers’ starting rotation by acquiring Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers.
Dodgers Acquire:
- Tarik Skubal LHP
Tigers Acquire:
- Josue De Paula OF
- Jackson Ferris LHP
- Mike Sirota OF
- Gavin Stone RHP
This trade proposal gives the Dodgers another ace in their rotation to provide them with another dominant lefty now that Clayton Kershaw has officially ended his baseball playing career.
This trade pitch has the Dodgers adding Skubal, 28, the 2024 AL Cy Young winner. He played 31 games, one of which was his first career shutout. At the end of the 2025 regular season, he was left with a 13-6 record, 241 strikeouts, a 2.21 ERA, and an impressive 0.89 WHIP. His 241 strikeouts were the second most in the MLB, behind Garrett Crochet of the Boston Red Sox.
In return, the Tigers add three players listed on MLB’s top 100 prospects in the league in Jackson Ferris, Mike Sirota, and Josue De Paula. The proposal includes right handed pitcher Gavin Stone.
Tarik Skubal & Tigers Far Apart
According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, Skubal’s camp and the Tigers aren’t seeing eye-to-eye on a contract extension.
“The Tigers commenced negotiations on an extension with Skubal,” Bowden wrote on October 23, 2025. “But, were somewhat surprised to find they were about a quarter of a billion dollars off with their latest offer.”
The team being off by $250,000,000 is a massive oversight on their part. With that in mind, Bowden sets reasonable expectations for what a new contract for Skubal looks like, especially considering Bowden says he’s considered one of the two best pitchers in the sport.
“Skubal will reset the market for pitchers and become the highest-paid starting pitcher in history,” Bowden wrote. “With a realistic starting price north of $400 million. It’s unlikely the Tigers go there, and if that’s the case, they certainly can’t make the mistake of waiting until the trade deadline to deal him or letting him walk with minimal draft compensation next offseason.”
Bowden cites the New York Yankees, New York Mets, San Francisco Giants, Red Sox, and Dodgers as the likely candidates to land the star.
Skubal the Key to Another World Series?
When the Dodgers won the World Series on Saturday, November 1st, Skubal shared his thoughts on the occasion on X. He simply shared the word “incredible.”
This is leading to much speculation. However, its not unreasonable to suggest that the left handed ace is impressed by the back-to-back Champions.
The Dodgers ran with a six pitcher starting rotation for some of the 2025 season. With Kershaw moving on to the next stage of his life, there is an opening for another leftie to swoop in.
As they demonstrated with Ohtani and Yamamoto, the Dodgers aren’t afraid to spend money. Orchestrating a trade for Skubal, and then extending him, doesn’t feel out of the range of possibilities.
It’s a long wait until Spring Training, but anything could happen between now and then.
