The vibes are certainly high with the Los Angeles Dodgers right now. After winning their second consecutive World Series championship, the Dodgers are heading into the 2026 season once again looking like the league’s best team. This is because they managed to have themselves another impressive offseason this year.
The Dodgers most notably won the sweepstakes for star slugger Kyle Tucker, as they signed the 29-year-old outfielder to a four-year, $280 million contract. He is now expected to be a huge part of the Dodgers’ roster as they look to win their third straight World Series in 2026.
Tucker is not the only notable player whom the Dodgers brought in during the offseason, though. This is because they also signed star reliever Edwin Diaz to a three-year, $69 million contract. The three-time All-Star should be a big part of the Dodgers’ bullpen this upcoming season, as he is coming off another strong year in 2025.
Yet, when looking at the Dodgers’ current roster, it is fair to argue that they should be open to making more moves. They would benefit by adding another solid relief pitcher to their roster, and they are now being linked to an interesting trade candidate because of it.
Dodgers Urged to Trade for Rays Reliever Griffin Jax
In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Zachary D. Rymer went over one trade that each MLB team should make ahead of Opening Day. When it came to the Dodgers, Rymer urged Los Angeles to strike a deal with the Tampa Bay Rays for top reliever Griffin Jax.
“It’s their bullpen that needs another talented arm. It’s not clear Jax is actually available, but he is a typical Dodgers trade target. Even if the results for his career are merely OK, the combination of his stuff and command rate him as an elite reliever,” Rymer wrote.
With the Dodgers in need of another impactful relief pitcher, it would make a lot of sense for them to make a big push for Jax. If the Dodgers successfully acquired him, he would instantly be one of their top relievers and give their bullpen a boost in the process.
Jax made 73 appearances this past season split between the Minnesota Twins and Rays, where he had a 1-7 record and a 4.23 ERA. Overall, it was a bit of a tough year for his standards, but his past success makes him a prime bounce-back candidate. Just back in 2024 with Minnesota, he had a 5-5 record, a 2.03 ERA, and 95 strikeouts.
Dodgers Could Have Competition for Jax If They Pursue Him
There is no question that Jax would be a nice pickup for the Dodgers if they landed him. Yet, with teams always on the hunt for bullpen help, it is certainly possible that the 6-foot-2 righty could end up being a popular trade target from here. There are also not many notable free-agent relievers left. This could lead to teams kicking tires on Jax.
Yet, it will be interesting to see if the Dodgers end up striking a deal for Jax. The fit looks excellent on paper, as he would improve their bullpen. The five-year veteran would also give them a reliever with good experience.
