Dolphins CB Tweets Strong Message About Mike McDaniel

Miami Dolphins cornerback Jack Jones called head xoach Mike McDaniel a “genius” in his latest X post, reacting to a Dolphins fan account, which asked fans to describe the coach in one word.

Jones is fresh off his best game as a Dolphin, securing his first interception of the season. The interception occurred in overtime as his takeaway put the Dolphins in prime position to win their second straight game.

Jack Jones Making Headlines

The cornerback’s latest tweet hasn’t been the only one that has people talking. Following the game in Madrid, he posted that the Raiders should have kept him.

Jones played with the Raiders for two seasons before his release on April 6, after failing to find a trade partner. Following his release, he signed with the Dolphins on July 26th after the Dolphins had newly signed cornerback Artie Burns go down with an ACL tear.

Since then, Jones has earned a starting role as an outside corner and has been their only cornerback to start all 11 games for them. He’s forced two fumbles and has now notched his first interception as a member of the team.

His celebration following the takeaway went viral, as he mimicked soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo’s signature goalscoring celebration and chant in the player’s former stadium in Madrid. Despite saying he’s not a big soccer guy, Jones said he enjoys the top guys of the sport and even said he told some of his teammates that the celebration was even better than the interception itself.

Additionally, the cornerback made more headlines after the game, as he told his teammates opposing quarterback Marcus Mariota “can’t throw.”

Mike McDaniel’s Relationship With the Cornerback

Following the Miami Dolphins’ 2-7 start, rumors started going around that Mike McDaniel was on the hot seat and close to losing his job. Instead, it was general manager Chris Grier that was fired after spending over 20 years in the organization. Following back-to-back wins, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel may be saving his job with a potential late-season run.

It’s become evident that Dolphins players still hold belief in their coach, evidenced by Jack Jones’ tweet. “Mike McDaniel really cares for his players and he’s really understanding. I think he’s a good coach and he’s a great person” Jones said while speaking on the Pat McAfee show on Thursday, November 12.

When asked about Jack Jones following the game, Mike McDaniel said “He’s really doing a great job taking advantage of the opportunity.” Immediately following the win, McDaniel rewarded Jones with a game ball, remarking on Jones being on the couch at the beginning of the offseason, before earning every inch.

Mike McDaniel has shown he can keep his team engaged despite starting the season poorly, as he went 6-3 in his final nine games of the 2024 season after beginning the year with a 2-6 record. So far, he’s led his teams to three wins in his last four games, but he’ll likely need to improve on last year’s finish if he wants to keep his head coaching role heading into next season.
