Dolphins’ Mike McDaniel Soars To NFL Favorite To Be Fired First

The seat was already warm for Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel entering his fourth season with the team. With his supporters saying let’s see what he can do with his healthy quarterback and defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver in year two. Then Sunday happened.

The Dolphins were blown out 33-8 by the Indianapolis Colts in what looked like a top to bottom failure from the organization on opening day.

Now it appears McDaniel’s seat may really be heating up as many sites now have him as the odds on favorite to be the first NFL coach fired this season.

“It appears that Mike McDaniel’s era in South Beach is coming to an end,” writes betting analyst Chris Vasille. “After a tumultuous offseason, the Miami Dolphins laid an egg on the road, getting blown out 33-8 by the Indianapolis Colts. It was clear that McDaniel did not have his team ready to play, and the players appeared to have quit on the three-year head coach. With his odds shortening from +200 to -200, McDaniel appears to be sinking fast.”

Another popular online book maker, oddshark.com, has the coach leading the pack at +200.

“The Miami Dolphins haven’t won a playoff game in 25 years,” Nick Holz writes. “Once one of the NFL’s premier franchises (we see you 1972), the Dolphins have fallen into mediocrity…”

“McDaniel is unquestionably an offensive savant, but he’s failed to put the puzzle pieces together in South Beach. Should the Fins, who own one of the NFL’s easiest schedules this season, fall behind the sticks early, owner Stephen Ross could pull the trigger.”

Jason Garrett Piles On McDaniel

There’s a reason the term kicking a man when he’s down exists, it’s cus it’s easy. In the NFL, you play on Sundays and your city has six days to tell you how great you are or how much you suck. And then you do it again.

Right now everybody and their mothers are coming out of the wood work to tell coach McDaniel how much he sucks. This includes former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett (who has spent his fair share of time on the receiving end of this cycle).

“No part of their team had any confidence, had any swag to them, and I think (head coach Mike McDaniel) reflected that. In those moments as a head coach, you have to stand up and you have to be the beacon for them going forward. It just felt a little blah, and his interview afterwards felt like how they played today,” Garrett said.

Pete Prisco Hates McDaniel’s Shoes

CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco is another loud and proud McDaniel hater. Last week on Pardon My Take, the world’s number one sports podcast, Prisco went on to explain how McDaniel came in playing the nice guy and now it’s too late to go back. He shredded the coach for his music at practice, his appearance in front of the media, and all around the vibes he brings to the organization.

After a disastrous Week 1, Prisco was once again back at it talking about McDaniel’s short comings.

“They play cool music, the coach wears cool shoes, they have no discipline, and it shows,” Prisco said. “They are a sloppy football team, and they play like it. And I think it starts with the head coach. It starts with the general manager. The roster isn’t great. It’s going to be a long season in Miami. And if the coach makes it, if Mike McDaniel makes it through the season, it will be a miracle.”
