Dolphins Trade Proposal Sends Tyreek Hill To Borderline Contenders

The Miami Dolphins‘ hopes for the playoffs seem to be limited at best after a a 3-0 start has left them bottom of the AFC East.

Although they will have the opportunity within their own hands to change this on Monday night, when they go up against the also 0-3 New York Jets on Monday night, one imagines that the feeling in and around Miami is not one of vast optimism for the rest of the season.

As the trade deadline slowly begins to come closer and closer, they could well be strong candidates to move off one of their better players. Particularly those exiting, rather than entering their primes.

Miami Dolphins Prediction Has Tyreek Hill Land With NFC Team

A trade proposal from Sportsnaut suggests that the Dolphins could offload five-time All-Pro wide receiver, Tyreek Hill, to a new team.

However, whilst a return to the Kansas City Chiefs has long been touted as the most common-sense destination, writer Matt Johnson has a different team in mind, the Washington Commanders.

“Among the other potential fits for Hill, we see a risk worth taking for the Washington Commanders.” Johnson writes. “The Terry McLaurin injury is only keeping him sidelined for Week 4 right now, but the fact that he’s received a second opinion on his quad/hip injury and surgery is only off the table for now feels like a reason for concern. Deebo Samuel is fine working underneath, but Jayden Daniels needs a deep threat and HIll is perfect for that role.”

What Could The Dolphins Get In Return For Tyreek Hill?

tWhilst Hill remains in the broader upper echelon of wideouts in the NFL – he would almost certainly be the #1 receiver on the majority of teams in the league – he is not quite the potent power he once was.

However, the start of his decline from his peak, combined with his colorful past and outspoken tendencies in the locker room, Johnson projects that the Dolphins would not see a vast return from their star pass-catcher.

“Given Hill’s history of causing some issues within the locker room,” Johnson continued, “including him quitting on the team mid-game in Week 18 last season, and the NFL’s ongoing inquiry into domestic violence allegations against Hill, any return for the Miami Dolphins will be limited. Washington could send a conditional 2027 fourth-round pick, which becomes a third if Hill plays in every game after the trade and the Commanders reach the NFC Championship Game.”

As a result, Johnson believes that just a conditional 4th round pick in 2027 – i.e. a delayed fourth rounder post 2026 – would be the sole compensation Miami would receive from a Hill trade.

Fourth round could be a little pessimistic, given Hill’s immense ability, even now aged 31. Hill has 198 yards in his first three games to commence the 2025 season, leading the Dolphins in receiving yards – which over the course of the season tracks to around 1100 yards total.

Perhaps a third, or a third and a fifth would be more plausible draft comp. for a player that will likely enter the Hall of Fame – but irregardless, it feels like we are heading towards a quite possible Hill-Dolphins divorce at some point or another.
