Donald Trump has responded to Team Europe after they teased him following their Ryder Cup victory over Team USA at Bethpage Black.
European golfers secured a historic away victory – the first for either side since the famous ‘Miracle at Medinah’ in 2012 – over in America on Sunday.
United States president Trump is known to be a massive golf fan and Team Europe trolled him after landing the 2025 Ryder Cup with a 15-13 triumph.
Trump flew in Long Island on Friday to cheer on Team USA – but his presence failed to inspire the American golfers – as Team Europe took a huge lead and pulled even further ahead on Saturday.
Despite a huge fightback from Team USA on Sunday, a dramatic putt from Shane Lowry of Ireland saw Team Europe retain the Ryder Cup before Tyrrell Hatton’s tie with Collin Morikawa secured an outright victory.
Following the conclusion of the Ryder Cup, Trump posted a video on his Truth Social account of Team Europe, led by Rory McIlroy, chanting: ‘Are you watching? Are you watching? Are you watching, Donald Trump?’
The European players are seen celebrating with the iconic Ryder Cup trophy in the clip as Trump responded: ‘Yes, I’m watching. Congratulations!’
The chant was also sung by jubilant fans at Bethpage Black – with Lowry joining in – and McIlroy and Matt Fitzpatrick laughing in the background.
This year’s Ryder Cup had plenty of drama and controversial moments with European stars targeted by American fans on a number of occasions.
At one point, McIlroy turned to Team USA supporters and told them to ‘shut the f*** up’ while Lowry was also heard shouting ‘f*** you’ to the crowd.
McIlroy also joked that he wished the police had ‘let the dogs off their leashes’ after a fan struck his wife Erica Stoll with a flying drink.
In another dramatic moment, Lowry had to be held back by his caddie after he was heckled by a Team USA fan.
Justin Rose was involved in a furious row with Bryson DeChambeau and the American’s caddie Gregory Bodine too in more chaotic scenes.
McIlroy has hit out at the New York crowd for ‘abusive’ behaviour during the 2025 Ryder Cup.
‘I think golf should be held to a higher standard than what was seen out there this week,’ the Northern Irishman said.
‘Golf has the ability to unite people. Golf teaches you very good life lessons.
‘It teaches you etiquette. It teaches you how to play by the rules. It teaches you how to respect people.
‘Sometimes this week we didn’t see that. So no, this should not be what is acceptable in the Ryder Cup. But, we will be making sure to say to our fans in Ireland in 2027 that what happened here this week is not acceptable. Come and support your home team.’
